Ole Miss Claims 2013 SEC Men's Basketball Tournament - Mar 18, 2013
NASHVILLE Murphy Holloway (6'7''-F-90) scored a game-high 23 points Sunday and third-seeded Ole Miss captured its first Southeastern Conference Tournament since 1981 with a 66-63 win against SEC regular-season champion Florida at Bridgestone Arena.
The Rebels (26-8) were making their fifth all-time appearance in the SEC Tournament championship game and first since 2001. Ole Miss tournament crown on Sunday was just its second all-time, as the Rebels bested Georgia in 1981.
Holloways 23 points came on 11-of-14 shooting and was complemented by a game-high 10 rebounds. SEC Tournament Most Valuable Player Marshall Henderson (6'2''-PG-90) scored 18 of his 21 points in the second half, including three three-pointers and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Reginald Buckner (6'9''-F-91) added 11 points.
Ole Miss shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field in the game, including a sizzling 53.6 percent (15-of-28) clip in the second half. Florida shot 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the floor. The Rebels out-rebounded the Gators 37-34.
Florida (26-7), which was the tournaments top seed, led 38-26 at halftime, but was out-scored 40-25 in the second half. The Gators connected on just 9-of-31 shots from the field in the games final period.
The Gators were led by Mike Rosario (6'3''-G-90, college: Florida)sarios team-high 18 points and nine rebounds, while Kenny Boynton (6'2''-PG-91) added 13 points.
The NCAA Mens Basketball Tournament selection show will air at 6 p.m. ET Sunday on CBS.
