Especially interesting is good performance of Travis McConico (16 points), Christian Keeling (13 points), and Phlandrous Fleming Jr. (2 points).
#1. Travis McConico, a 6'6'' forward/guard who graduated from Charleston Southern University in 2019 and currently plays professionally in Bulgaria, played a crucial role in Balkan's recent triumph over Shumen, the underdog of the league with a 3-25 record. In the Bulgarian National Basketball League matchup on Thursday night, Balkan secured an 84-65 victory, with McConico shining as he contributed 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in just 30 minutes of play. Balkan Botevgrad, currently holding the second position in the league with a record of 22-6, has been on a winning streak, with the victory over Shumen marking their third consecutive win. With only two games remaining in the Regular Season, each game now holds significant importance for the team's standings. McConico's stellar performance against Shumen truly highlighted his talents, showcasing his ability to impact the game on multiple fronts. With an average of 15.0 points, 3.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game in the nine games he has played this season, McConico has consistently demonstrated his value to the team. His exceptional display in the recent game further solidifies his reputation as a true champion and a key player for Balkan's success in the league.
#2. Christian Keeling, a 6'3'' guard and Tar Heels alumni from 2020, showcased his skills playing for Charleston Southern between 2016 and 2019. During his time at Charleston Southern, he earned the Big South Conference All-Tournament Team award. Currently playing professionally in Finland, Keeling recently couldn't help the Seagulls (14-18) secure a victory in their last game. Despite his commendable performance, where he emerged as the top scorer with 13 points and also contributed 5 rebounds in 28 minutes, the Seagulls suffered a significant 92-72 defeat at home to the leading Kataja in the Places 1-6 group. This loss marked the Seagulls' fourth consecutive defeat. Throughout the season, Keeling has been a standout player, maintaining impressive statistics. He boasts an average of 15.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game over the 36 games he has played thus far. Despite the Seagulls' recent struggles, Keeling's individual performance has been noteworthy, demonstrating his talent and contribution to the team.
#3. Phlandrous Fleming Jr., a 6'4'' guard who is 27 years old and graduated from Florida in 2023, showcased his talent on the basketball court. Despite playing for Charleston Southern between 2017 and 2021, where he received the All-Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Year award, he now plays professionally in France. In a recent game, he helped Sluc Nancy Basket Pro secure a decisive victory over Le Portel, the league's underdog with a 1-25 record, with a commanding scoreline of 95-50. Even though Fleming Jr. only scored 2 points, his 6 assists in 25 minutes were instrumental in the win. Currently, Sluc Nancy Basket Pro holds the tenth spot in the league standings with a record of 12-15, with only three games remaining in the Regular Season. With the competition heating up, each game becomes crucial for the team's position in the league. Fleming Jr. has been delivering solid performances throughout the season, averaging 11.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in the 24 games he has played so far. His contribution on the court against Le Portel exemplified his skills and leadership, proving why he is considered a true champion.
#4. Sean Price, a 6'4'' guard and 27-year-old Buccaneers alumnus from 2022, showcased his skills as a professional player in Colombia. In a recent game, Price contributed to Sabios de Manizales' triumph over the second-ranked Paisas with a scoreline of 80-71 in the Colombian LBP. Despite scoring just 4 points and recording 3 steals in 15 minutes of play, Price's impact was instrumental in securing the victory. Sabios de Manizales, currently positioned second from the bottom (#7) in the league standings with a 1-3 record, greatly benefited from Price's performance. The win against Paisas marked their first victory after enduring three consecutive losses, highlighting Price's value to the team as a champion player. Even though the Regular Season has concluded, Price's efforts on the court have been noteworthy throughout the year. With an average of 3.3 points per game in four appearances, Price has consistently made valuable contributions to his team's success. Additionally, Price's dual American and Colombian citizenship allows him to play in Colombia as a domestic player, further enhancing his versatility and impact on the league.
