Courtesy of Eurobasket LLC We bring you last week's top former Wildcats players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
Especially interesting is good performance of Tyler Kalinoski (12 points), Peyton Aldridge (13 points), and Jon Axel Gudmundsson (3 points).
#1. Experienced champion Tyler Kalinoski, a 6'4'' shooting guard at 33 years old, graduated from Davidson in 2015 and received the All-Atlantic 10 Player of the Year award that year. He currently plays professionally in Spain and recently led Unicaja Malaga to a decisive 101-83 victory over the closely-ranked Breogan Lugo in a Spanish Liga Endesa game on Saturday night. In the game, Kalinoski showcased his skills by scoring 12 points, securing 4 rebounds, and distributing 5 assists in just 25 minutes of play. Unicaja Malaga, positioned ninth in the league with a record of 17-15, celebrated their first win after enduring three consecutive losses. With only two games remaining in the Regular Season, each match becomes crucial for the team's standing. This marks Kalinoski's fourth season with Unicaja Malaga, and his stellar performance against Breogan Lugo reaffirmed his status as a finalist in the game. Throughout the season, Kalinoski has maintained an average of 6.4 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game across 29 appearances on the court.
#2. Peyton Aldridge, a 30-year-old 6'8'' forward and Wildcats alumnus from 2018, currently plays professionally in Italy. Despite his outstanding performance in the recent game, where he contributed 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 blocks in 27 minutes, he could not lead Dolomiti Energia Trentino to victory. The team suffered a 81-90 defeat against Virtus Bologna, the current league leaders. It was a tough loss for Trento, but Aldridge's individual effort was commendable. Aldridge, who is in his first season with the team, showcased his skills in the matchup against Virtus Bologna, scoring 13 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and providing 2 assists. Despite his impressive statistics, the team fell short in securing the win. Throughout the season, Aldridge has been averaging 8.2 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game in the 32 games he has played so far. His contributions on the court have been vital for his team, even though they have faced challenges in some games.
#3. Icelandic champion Jon Axel Gudmundsson, a 6'5'' guard who is 29 years old and graduated from Davidson in 2020, currently plays professionally in Spain. Recently, Gudmundsson's team, Longevida San Pablo Burgos, faced off against Joventut in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Despite his efforts, Gudmundsson was not able to lead his team to victory, as they were defeated 79-86 on the road by the higher-ranked Joventut. During the game, Gudmundsson scored just 3 points in 10 minutes of play and provided 1 assist. This performance was not one of his best, and he will be looking to bounce back in the upcoming critical game, which will be the last one for his team in the Regular Season. Throughout the season, Gudmundsson has been averaging 4.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.1 steals per game in 29 appearances. Despite the challenging game against Joventut, Gudmundsson remains a key player for Longevida San Pablo Burgos as they strive to finish the season on a high note.
#4. Jordan Barham, a 31-year-old 6'5'' guard and Wildcats alumnus from 2016 who currently plays professionally in France, recently showcased his skills for Tours in a game against Mulhouse. Barham, the team's top scorer, contributed 18 points and 4 rebounds in 25 minutes of play. Despite his commendable performance, Tours, currently ranked sixth with a record of 25-15, suffered a significant 96-71 defeat on Mulhouse's home court, who are currently ranked second in Group A. This marked Barham's first season with the team. In the match against Mulhouse, Barham's impressive display included scoring 18 points, securing 4 rebounds, and providing 1 assist. Despite his notable efforts, Tours was unable to secure the victory. Throughout this season, Barham has maintained an average of 8.8 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game across 41 games.
#5. De'Mon Brooks, a 6'8'' power forward who graduated from Davidson in 2014 and was awarded the All-Southern Conference Player of the Year, currently competes professionally in Taiwan. In a recent game, despite his commendable efforts, Brooks could not prevent the TSG Ghosthawks from suffering a crushing 119-92 defeat at the hands of the second-ranked Braves in Taipei. During the game, Brooks showcased his skills by contributing 16 points and 6 rebounds in 35 minutes of play, making him the second-highest scorer for the Ghosthawks. Despite his strong performance against the Fubon Braves, where he scored 16 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and provided 1 assist, his team was unable to secure a victory. Throughout the season, Brooks has consistently delivered exceptional performances, boasting impressive statistics. He currently holds the second-best scoring average in the league with 19.2 points per game, ranks third in rebounds with 9.8 per game, averages 1.8 assists per game, and leads the league in steals with 2.0 per game over 22 games.
#6. South Korean Hyunjung Lee, a 6'7'' guard/forward who is 25 years old, is a Wildcats alum from 2022. He was instrumental in helping them secure the Atlantic 10 Regular Season Champion title that year. Currently playing professionally in Japan, Lee recently played for Nagasaki Velca, who unfortunately lost their last game to the lower-ranked (#3) Golden Kings in the West group despite Lee's impressive performance. In the game against the Golden Kings, Lee showcased his skills by scoring 16 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, and providing 1 assist during his 38 minutes on the court. Despite his strong individual performance, Nagasaki Velca was narrowly defeated 71-69 by their opponents. Throughout the season, Lee has maintained high statistics, averaging 17.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game across 63 games.
