Every week we bring you a list of the top former Keydets players who continue their career in pro basketball.
#1. Sean Conway, a 6'5'' guard who is 25 years old and a St. John's graduate in 2024, showcased his skills on the court during the recent game for the Perth Redbacks. Despite his remarkable performance as the top scorer with 31 points and contributing 6 rebounds in 40 minutes, the Perth Redbacks, currently ranked ninth with a 4-7 record, were unable to secure a victory against the East Perth Eagles, who are placed seventh in the West group. The final score saw the Perth Redbacks defeated 90-83 on the road.
Conway's exceptional individual season is evident in his impressive averages of 22.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game. His talent and dedication to the game have been instrumental for the team, even though the Perth Redbacks have faced challenges in securing wins. Despite the outcome of the recent game, Conway's performance highlights his potential as a champion player in the league.
#2. Jake Stephens, a 26-year-old center standing at 7'0'' and a proud alum of the Mocs class of 2023, previously honed his skills at VMI between 2018 and 2022. He recently showcased his talents in the Croatian Favbet Premijer Liga as part of KK Split, contributing significantly to their victory over the closely-ranked Cibona with a final score of 83-78 on Monday night. In a thrilling match between two top 4 teams, Stephens demonstrated his prowess by scoring 5 points and securing 7 rebounds in just 16 minutes of play. This stellar performance not only helped KK Split emerge victorious but also reinforced Stephens's reputation as a true champion on the court. Currently, he maintains an impressive season average of 9.2 points per game and 5.1 rebounds per game, further solidifying his status as a standout finalist in the league.
#3. Experienced Nigerian player Stan Okoye, a 6'6'' small forward aged 35, who graduated from VMI in 2013 and received the All-Big South Conference Player of the Year award that same year, currently plays professionally in Spain for MoraBanc Andorra. In their recent game last Friday against FC Barcelona, ranked #5, despite Okoye's contribution, Andorra was defeated 100-95 in Barcelona. Okoye, who played for 14 minutes, managed to score 10 points and secure 3 rebounds. The game marked the end of the Regular Season.
Okoye displayed a commendable performance against FC Barcelona, showcasing his skills by scoring 10 points and grabbing 3 rebounds. Despite his notable efforts, MoraBanc Andorra was unable to secure a victory against the higher-ranked opponent.
