Here is the weekly review of the top performing Redhawks alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Antonius Cleveland, a 6'5'' guard aged 32, who graduated from SEMO in 2017 and received the All-OVC First Team award that year, currently plays professionally in Russia. In a recent match, he played a crucial role in PBC CSKA Moscow's victory over the closely-ranked Lokomotiv with a score of 103-92 in the VTB United League on Saturday night. Despite scoring only 4 points in 14 minutes of play, Cleveland's contribution was significant in securing the win for his team. This game was highly anticipated as it featured two top 4 ranked teams battling it out, with PBC CSKA Moscow (37-3) leading the league standings. The victory marked his team's tenth consecutive win in a row, showcasing their dominance in the league.
This season marks Cleveland's first with the team, and his performance against Lokomotiv highlights his ability to make an impact on the court. With 4 points and 1 assist in the game, Cleveland played a key role in helping his team emerge as the champion. Throughout the season, he has been averaging 8.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game, showcasing his versatility and skill on the court.
#2. Nate Johnson, a 6'9'' center and 26-year-old Redhawks alumni from 2023, made a significant impact during his time with the team, helping them emerge as the OVC Tournament champion that year. Currently playing professionally in Romania, Johnson is showcasing his skills with Galati, despite the team's struggles in the Romanian Liga Nationala Baschet de Masculin.
In a recent match against Targu Jiu, who are ranked higher in the league at #14, Johnson fought hard to contribute to his team's performance. Even though he managed to score 4 points, grab 3 rebounds, and provide 2 assists in just 19 minutes of play, Galati was unable to secure a victory. The final score saw Targu Jiu triumph over Galati with a score of 90-75 on their home court.
Galati, currently positioned as an outsider in the league with a record of 0-28 in the Play-Out Round, has faced challenges throughout the season. Despite the team's struggles, Johnson has maintained an average of 6.6 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game, ranking fourth in the league in this category. This season marks Johnson's debut with the team, where he continues to showcase his talent and dedication on the court.
As a naturalized American player, Johnson's commitment and impressive performance on the court highlight his determination to contribute positively to Galati's basketball journey, even amidst the team's challenging season.
#3. Skyler Hogan, a 28-year-old guard standing at 6'5'' and a graduate of SEMO in 2020, showcased his talent in leading Club Atletico Penarol Montevideo to a crucial victory against the sixth-ranked Defensor in a recent match in the Uruguayan Liga Uruguaya de Basquetbol. In this derby game, Hogan's team emerged triumphant with a score of 93-81. Despite playing for Penarol for the first season, Hogan's impact on the court was undeniable as he contributed 11 points and 4 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play.
This win marked Penarol's fourth consecutive victory, solidifying their top position in the Places 1-6 group. Hogan's consistent performance throughout the season is reflected in his impressive stats, averaging 14.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game.
