Here is the weekly review of the top performing Cyclones alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. In a recent Luxembourg Basketball League matchup, the towering 6'3'' center and Iowa St. graduate, Beatriz Jordao, showcased her skills and led T71 to a resounding victory over Contern with a score of 95-54. Her stellar performance included a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, along with 3 steals, in just 23 minutes of play. This remarkable display of talent is even more impressive considering Jordao is only in her third season of professional basketball. The game, a clash between two top 4 ranked teams, highlighted T71 Dudelange's dominance as they secured their fifth consecutive win and maintained their top spot in the league with a record of 17-1.
Jordao's exceptional showing against Contern earned her the admiration of fans and experts alike, leading to her being awarded the Triple-Double Badge by eurobasket.com. Her overall performance throughout the season has been consistently strong, with impressive averages of 11.2 points, 11.0 rebounds (the second best in the league), 2.1 assists, 1.1 blocks (also second best in the league), and 1.1 steals per game in the 20 games she has played so far. These statistics underscore why Jordao is rightfully recognized as a champion player in the league, consistently delivering standout performances and contributing significantly to her team's success.
#2. Canadian Bridget Carleton, a 29-year-old 6'1'' forward and Cyclones alumna from 2019, is a standout player in the WNBA. Recently, she was unable to lead the Portland Fire (2-3) to victory in their latest game against the Indiana Fever, where the Fire suffered a heavy 90-73 defeat on the road. Despite the loss, Carleton, the top scorer of the game with 16 points, also showcased her defensive prowess by recording 3 steals in just 25 minutes of play.
As the season is still in its early stages, there is plenty of time for the Portland Fire to bounce back from this setback and show improvement. Carleton's remarkable performance against the Indiana Fever highlighted her skills and contribution to the team, even though it wasn't enough to secure a win.
Throughout the season so far, Carleton has maintained impressive individual statistics, averaging 16.8 points per game, 3.0 rebounds per game, 1.8 assists per game, and 2.4 steals per game (the second best in the league) across five games. Her consistent high-level performance demonstrates her value as a key player for the Portland Fire as they aim to compete and potentially become champions in the league.
