We bring you last week's top former Aztecs players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Darrion Trammell, a 5'10'' point guard who is 25 years old and graduated from SDSU in 2024 after helping them reach the final of the MWC Tournament that year, currently plays professionally in Hungary. In a recent game where his team Kaposvari (17-9) faced off against Atomeromu (#7) in the Play-Off group, Trammell put on a commendable performance but unfortunately couldn't prevent his team from suffering a crushing 113-92 defeat on the road. Despite scoring 21 points and making 4 steals in 28 minutes, Trammell's efforts were not enough to secure a victory for Kaposvari.
Against Atomeromu, Trammell showcased his skills by scoring 21 points, collecting 3 rebounds, and providing 2 assists. Despite his impressive individual performance, his team fell short in the game. Throughout the season, Trammell has been putting up strong numbers, averaging 15.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 2.3 steals per game, ranking as the second-best steal performer in the league.
#2. Matt Mitchell, a 6'7'' forward and 27-year-old Aztecs alumni from the class of 2021, currently plays professionally in Turkey. Despite his impressive accolades, such as receiving the All-MWC All-Tournament MVP award in 2021, Mitchell couldn't lead Bahcesehir Koleji Istanbul (21-9) to victory over Fenerbahce (25-5) in the Turkish ING Basketbol Super Ligi.
In the recent match against Fenerbahce, Mitchell's performance was somewhat subdued, as he contributed 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists in 24 minutes of play. Unfortunately, Bahcesehir Koleji Istanbul suffered a 96-86 defeat against the formidable Fenerbahce in a crucial derby game.
With only two games remaining in the Regular Season, each upcoming match becomes pivotal for the team's standings. This season marks Mitchell's debut with Bahcesehir Koleji Istanbul, where he has been averaging 6.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
Despite Mitchell's efforts, the finalist ended up on the losing side against Fenerbahce. Nonetheless, with his skills and determination, he remains a valuable asset for the team as they strive for success in the league.
#3. Jay Pal, a 6'9'' forward who graduated from SDSU in 2024 and helped them reach the final of the MWC Tournament that year, currently plays professionally in Mexico. Recently, he led Frayles de Guasave to a resounding victory over the sixth-ranked Toros with a scoreline of 111-85 in the Mexican Circuito de Baloncesto de la Costa del Pacifico. Pal's outstanding performance earned him the title of MVP of the game, where he scored 18 points, secured 6 rebounds, made 3 assists, and blocked 2 shots in just 28 minutes of play. This remarkable display is even more impressive considering it is only his second season in professional basketball. Frayles de Guasave, with a record of 23-17, currently holds the second position in the league standings, with only three games remaining in the Regular Season, making each upcoming game crucial. Pal's consistent performance throughout the season is reflected in his statistics of 12.8 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists per game, and 1.1 blocks per game. It is worth noting that Jay Pal is a naturalized South Sudanese player who continues to excel on the basketball court.
#4. Trey Pulliam, a 6'3'' guard and 27-year-old Aztecs alumni from 2022, played a crucial role in helping his team reach the final of the MWC Tournament that year. Currently, he is playing professionally in Lithuania. Recently, he made a significant contribution to Gargzdu's victory over the second-ranked Rytas with a score of 103-98 in the Lithuanian Betsafe Lietuvos krepsinio lyga on Saturday night. Pulliam showcased his skills by scoring 9 points, making 5 assists, and securing 3 steals in just 21 minutes of play.
Gargzdu SC Gargzdai, with a record of 15-17, currently holds the sixth position in the league standings. Pulliam's team has been on a winning streak, clinching their third consecutive victory. With only one more game left in the Regular Season, the upcoming match holds great importance for them.
Pulliam's impressive performance against Rytas highlighted his capabilities as a champion on the court. His 9 points and 5 assists were instrumental in securing the crucial victory for his team. Throughout the season, Pulliam has been maintaining an average of 7.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, showcasing his consistent contribution to the team's success.
#5. Terrell Gomez, a 5'8'' point guard who graduated from SDSU in 2021 after helping them win the MWC Regular Season Championship that year, currently plays professionally in France. Last Friday, Gomez couldn't prevent Quimper UJAP (9-29) from suffering a 75-62 defeat at the hands of the higher-ranked Voltaire (#9) in Denain. Despite Gomez's notable effort, where he scored 13 points in 29 minutes and provided 2 assists, Quimper fell short in the game. The regular season has already concluded, and Gomez has been showcasing his skills on the court, maintaining solid statistics this season with averages of 11.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. It's worth noting that Gomez is a naturalized American player.
#6. Experienced forward J.J. O'Brien, a 34-year-old Aztecs alumnus from 2015 who helped his team to win the MWC Regular Season Co-Champion title that year, currently plays professionally in Japan. Despite his skills and experience, he was unable to lead the Shinshu Brave Warriors Nagano to victory against Excellence. In a disappointing performance on Sunday, O'Brien scored a mere 2 points in 15 minutes of play as his team suffered a significant 16-point defeat with a final score of 100-84.
Although O'Brien managed to contribute 2 points and 2 rebounds in a game against Yokohama EX, his individual efforts were not enough to secure a win for his team. Throughout the season, O'Brien has been averaging 7.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. Despite the setbacks, O'Brien continues to strive for success as a dedicated player in the Japanese professional league.
