Here is the weekly review of the top performing Rockets alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. JT Shumate, a 6'7'' forward who graduated from Toledo in 2023, is currently playing professionally in the Czech Republic. In a recent game, he led ERA Basketball Nymburk to a dominant victory against Opava, the fifth-ranked team in the Czech Republic Maxa NBL. Shumate's exceptional performance on the court, where he scored 13 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and dished out 2 assists in just 17 minutes, was instrumental in his team's decisive 116-79 win.
ERA Basketball Nymburk, with a record of 32-4, currently holds the top spot in the Places 1-8 group, thanks in part to Shumate's contributions. This victory marked the team's sixth consecutive win, showcasing their strong form. Shumate's consistent performance throughout the season is reflected in his solid stats, averaging 10.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game in the 33 games he has played so far.
His display of skill and leadership on the court truly exemplifies his status as a champion and a finalist for the Lou Henson National Player of the Year Award in 2023.
#2. Spencer Littleson, a 6'4'' guard who is 27 years old, previously played for the Rockets and was part of their alummi from 2021 when they became the MAC Regular Season Champion. Currently, he is playing professionally in Spain. In a recent game, despite Littleson's notable performance, Menorca (17-15) suffered a tough 93-71 loss on the road against the second-ranked Coruna. Littleson showcased his skills by scoring 15 points in 29 minutes, making him the second-highest scorer in the game.
Even though Littleson had an impressive outing against Coruna, where he also contributed 3 rebounds and 2 assists, his team was unable to secure the victory. Throughout the season, Littleson has maintained strong individual performance, averaging 16.6 points per game, which ranks him as the second-best scorer in the league. Additionally, he has averaged 2.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists in the 33 games he has played.
#3. Christopher Darrington, a 29-year-old point guard standing at 6'1", graduated from Toledo in 2019 and played a pivotal role in helping them secure the MAC West Division Regular Season Champion title that year. Currently playing professionally in the TBL, Darrington showcased his skills in a recent game where the Glass City Wranglers triumphed over the Hamilton County Huskers with a resounding 147-87 victory. In this game, Darrington demonstrated his prowess by contributing 17 points in just 20 minutes of play.
Despite the Glass City Wranglers holding a somewhat modest 10-7 record this season, every remaining game is crucial as there are only two matches left in the regular season. Darrington's exceptional performance against the HC Huskers, where he not only scored 17 points but also secured 2 rebounds and provided 1 assist, was instrumental in leading his team to victory as the champion of the game.
Individually, Darrington has been having a standout year, boasting impressive statistics. He currently averages 24.7 points per game, ranking fourth in the league, along with 3.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game across 13 games. With such stellar performances, Darrington continues to prove himself as a key player in the league.
