Every week we bring you a list of the top former Blue Devils players who continue their career in pro basketball.
#1. Lexie Brown, a 5'9'' point guard, is a 31-year-old professional basketball player who graduated from Duke University in 2018. In that same year, she received the prestigious All-ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Currently playing in the WNBA, Brown recently showcased her skills by leading the Seattle Storm to a triumphant victory over the Connecticut Sun with a score of 89-82 in a recent game.
In this particular game, Brown not only played a pivotal role but also earned the title of MVP by scoring an impressive 17 points in just 21 minutes of play. Despite the Seattle Storm having a somewhat lackluster 1-2 record this season, it is still early in the season, and there is potential for improvement as the games progress.
Brown's standout performance against the Connecticut Sun, where she not only scored 17 points but also provided 1 assist, was crucial in securing the victory that ultimately led her team to be crowned the champion. With an average of 5.7 points per game and 1.7 rebounds per game in the three games she has played so far this season, Brown continues to be a key player to watch as the season unfolds.
#2. Experienced champion Elizabeth Williams, a 6'3'' center who is 32 years old and an alumna of the Blue Devils class of 2015, currently plays professionally in the WNBA. In a recent game against the Portland Fire, she played a significant role in her team's dominant 98-83 victory. Despite only playing for 15 minutes, she managed to score 10 points, showcasing her skill and efficiency on the court.
The Chicago Sky, the team Williams plays for, has a somewhat modest 2-1 record so far this season. In the game against Portland Fire, Williams not only scored 10 points but also grabbed 1 rebound and provided 2 assists. These impressive stats were instrumental in securing the win, solidifying her status as the champion of the game.
Throughout this season, Williams has been averaging 4.3 points per game and 3.7 rebounds per game across three games. Her consistent contributions on both ends of the court have been essential in helping her team achieve success.
#3. Italian champion Sofia Roma, a 6'2'' center who graduated from Duke in 2019, showcased her skills in the recent game where she helped U.M.F. Njardvik secure a crucial victory against the league leader, Haukar, with a score of 75-70. Despite scoring only 2 points in 15 minutes of play, Roma made a significant impact on the game.
The match was highly anticipated as it featured two top 3 ranked teams in group Places 1-5, with U.M.F. Njardvik currently holding the second position with a record of 15-7. Roma, in her first season with the team, displayed an impressive performance against Haukar, contributing not only in scoring but also in rebounds and assists. Her valuable contributions were instrumental in guiding her team to success, ultimately leading them to be crowned as the champion in the game.
Roma's overall performance this season has been noteworthy, with an average of 5.6 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game in 18 appearances. It is worth noting that she also holds a Puerto Rican passport, adding to her international background and experience in the sport.
#4. Chelsea Gray, a 5'11'' point guard and 33-year-old alumna of Duke University, was a key player in helping her team reach the final of the ACC Tournament in 2014. Currently playing professionally in the WNBA, she led the Las Vegas Aces to a 101-94 victory over the Connecticut Sun in a recent game. Gray showcased her skills by recording a double-double with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 10 assists in just 31 minutes of play.
Despite the Las Vegas Aces having a somewhat lackluster 3-1 record this season, Gray's performance has been consistently impressive. With this recent win, her team secured their third consecutive victory. Gray's remarkable contribution in the game against the Connecticut Sun earned her the title of champion of the match, as her exceptional abilities and unwavering determination were instrumental in securing the win.
In the current season, Gray boasts an average of 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game, ranking her fourth in the league for assists. Her all-around skills and leadership on the court continue to make her a standout player in the WNBA.
#5. Jade Williams, a 6'5'' forward/center who graduated from Duke in 2022 and currently plays professionally in Australia, recently showcased her skills for the East Perth Eagles. In a challenging match against the undefeated Cougars in the Australian NBL One North, she fought hard to lead her team to victory. Despite her impressive performance of scoring 7 points and grabbing 7 rebounds in 26 minutes of play, the East Perth Eagles (6-2) fell short against the dominant Cougars (7-0), losing 81-91 on the road.
The defeat marked the East Perth Eagles' first loss after a streak of three consecutive wins. Notably, Williams continued to shine in the following game against Cockburn, putting up another strong performance with 7 points and 7 rebounds. Even though she displayed her skills on the court, her team was unable to secure a win.
