We bring you last week's top former Keydets players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Jake Stephens, a 26-year-old center standing at 7'0'' who graduated from Chattanooga in 2023, previously played for VMI between 2018 and 2022. During his time at VMI, he received the All-SoCon First Team award in his final year. Currently, he is playing professionally in Croatia.
In a recent game, Stephens contributed significantly to KK Split's victory over the closely-ranked Zabok with a score of 86-80 in the Croatian Favbet Premijer Liga. He showcased his skills by scoring 9 points and securing 6 rebounds in just 17 minutes of play. This outstanding performance helped KK Split, which is currently placed third in the league, to secure the win. Stephens' consistent contributions on the court have been instrumental in his team's success, ultimately leading them to become the champion.
Throughout this season, Stephens has maintained an average of 9.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in the 32 games he has played so far. His strong presence and performance on the court continue to be a valuable asset to his team's success.
#2. Sean Conway, a 6'5'' guard and 25-year-old Red Storm alumnus from 2024, showcased his talent by leading the Perth Redbacks to a thrilling victory against the tenth-ranked Giants in the Australian NBL One's second division. Despite playing professionally in Australia for only his second season, Conway's impressive performance on Saturday night included scoring 21 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists in 32 minutes of play.
His contribution was instrumental in the Perth Redbacks' 107-103 win over the Giants, demonstrating his prowess on the court and solidifying his reputation as a standout player. Currently, the Perth Redbacks are placed eighth in the West group, with a record of 4-3. However, as the season is still in its early stages, there is much anticipation for what lies ahead.
Conway's exceptional year is further highlighted by his impressive individual statistics, averaging 18.3 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game over the course of six games. His consistent performance and remarkable skills have undoubtedly played a crucial role in helping his team emerge as the champion in recent games.
#3. Experienced Nigerian player Stan Okoye, standing at 6'6'' and playing as a small forward, is 35 years old and a graduate of VMI in 2013. In that same year, he received the prestigious All-Big South Conference Player of the Year award. Currently, he is showcasing his skills as a professional player in Spain.
In a recent game, Okoye played a crucial role in helping MoraBanc Andorra claim victory against the 11th-ranked BAXI Manresa with a score of 104-94 in the Spanish Liga Endesa. Despite scoring only 2 points during his 13 minutes on the court, his contribution was significant in securing the win. This victory was instrumental in propelling his team towards the champion status.
MoraBanc Andorra is currently placed 16th in the league standings with a record of 9-21. With only four games remaining in the Regular Season, every upcoming game will be of utmost importance for the team's playoff aspirations. Okoye's performance, where he scored 2 points and grabbed 3 rebounds against Manresa, highlights his valuable presence on the court.
Throughout this season, Okoye has been averaging 8.5 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game in the 24 games he has played. Notably, he is a naturalized Nigerian player whose skills and experience bring a valuable dynamic to his team's gameplay.
#4. Gregory Parham, a 6'4'' guard and 27-year-old Jaguars alum from 2023, previously played for VMI between 2017 and 2021 where he received the All-SoCon Second Team award. He is now playing professionally in Spain and currently a member of Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto. In a recent game, he played a crucial role in Oviedo's victory against the 11th-ranked Ourense with a score of 74-70 in the Spanish Primera FEB, the second division league. Despite only recording 7 points in 20 minutes, his contribution was significant as it helped secure the win for his team.
Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto is currently placed fifth in the league with a record of 19-13. Parham's performance against Ourense marked his team's third consecutive victory, highlighting their strong form heading into the final stretch of the Regular Season. With only three games remaining, each match becomes increasingly critical for the team's standings.
This season marks Parham's debut with the Spanish team, and he has been showcasing his skills as a champion on the court. His impressive stats for the year include an average of 13.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game over 32 games. His consistency and performance demonstrate his value as a key player for Alimerka Oviedo Baloncesto, proving himself as a finalist in every game.
