Here is the weekly review of the top performing Falcons alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. In a recent game in the Croatian Favbet Premijer Liga, Demajeo Wiggins, a 6'10'' center/forward who graduated from BGSU in 2019, showcased his prowess as a champion. Playing for KK Split, Wiggins led his team to a resounding 87-70 victory over KK Cedevita Junior Zagreb. He was named the MVP of the game for his outstanding performance, scoring 17 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and dishing out 3 assists in just 29 minutes on the court.
Currently, KK Split holds the third position in the league with a record of 25-8. With only two games remaining in the Regular Season, each match becomes crucial for the team's standings. This marks Wiggins' debut season with KK Split, where he has been maintaining solid statistics, averaging 10.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game.
Wiggins' exceptional display of talent and determination against Cedevita Junior Zagreb truly exemplified his capabilities as a finalist. As the season progresses, his contributions will be vital in propelling KK Split towards further success in the league.
#2. Experienced champion Jordon Crawford, a 5'6'' point guard aged 35 and an alumnus of the Falcons from 2013, is currently playing professionally in Turkey. In a thrilling Turkish ING Basketbol Super Ligi match on Sunday night, he led Esenler Erokspor Istanbul to a narrow 70-69 victory over the closely-ranked Merkezefendi (12-18). Crawford's stellar performance included scoring 11 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and providing 9 assists in just 25 minutes of play.
Despite Esenler Erokspor Istanbul being placed eighth in the league with a record of 17-13, Crawford's exceptional leadership on the court was instrumental in securing the win for his team. As a finalist, his remarkable efforts helped his team emerge as the champion of the game against Merkezefendi. Notably, Crawford has been having an outstanding season with impressive averages of 15.2 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game.
With the Regular Season already concluded, Crawford's consistent and high-level performance throughout the season has undoubtedly played a pivotal role in his team's success, showcasing his skills as a true champion player.
#3. Justin Turner, a 6'4'' guard aged 28 and a Bowling Green State University graduate in 2021, has made a significant impact in the Lithuanian basketball scene. Currently playing professionally in Lithuania, Turner showcased his talent and leadership skills by leading Gargzdu to a crucial victory over Lietkabelis in the Lithuanian Betsafe Lietuvos krepsinio lyga. In this game, Turner was a standout performer, scoring 19 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and providing 5 assists in 33 minutes of play. As a result of his exceptional performance, Turner was named the Most Valuable Player of the game, further solidifying his reputation as a champion player.
Gargzdu SC Gargzdai, where Turner currently plays, is positioned sixth in the league standings, making each remaining game critical as the Regular Season draws to a close. Despite this being Turner's first season with the team, he has consistently delivered remarkable performances, averaging 16.1 points per game (ranking fourth in the league), along with 4.0 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. In a thrilling match on Sunday night, Trey Diggs, a 27-year-old 6'6'' guard/forward and Falcons alumni from 2022, currently playing professionally in Romania, showcased his talent by leading Targu Mures to a narrow 92-91 victory over the 14th-ranked Targu Jiu in the Romanian Liga Nationala Baschet de Masculin. Diggs, the MVP of the game, demonstrated his prowess by scoring 19 points in 35 minutes of play.
CS Municipal Targu Mures, where Diggs is currently playing in his first season, is positioned tenth in the league with a record of 14-14. With only two games remaining in the Play-Out Round, every upcoming game is crucial for the team's standings. Diggs' remarkable performance against Targu Jiu, where he not only scored 19 points but also secured 2 rebounds, emphasized his capabilities as a seasoned champion on the court.
Throughout the season, Diggs has consistently delivered impressive statistics, averaging 16.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. His standout contributions have undoubtedly played a significant role in propelling Targu Mures towards success and solidifying his reputation as a standout finalist in the league.
#5. Leon Ayers III, a 6'5'' guard who is 26 years old and graduated from BGSU in 2023, currently plays professionally in Portugal. Despite his best efforts, Ayers III could not lead Oliveirense (12-10) to victory against Ovarense (14-8) in the Portuguese Liga Betclic Masculina. In the game, Ayers III contributed 6 points in 18 minutes of play. The match ended with Oliveirense suffering a 93-79 defeat on the road against the higher-ranked Ovarense, who held the #4 position. This season marks Ayers III's first with the team.
Despite the loss, Ayers III put on an impressive performance against Ovarense, recording 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. His overall season statistics reflect his solid contribution to the team, averaging 11.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
#6. Wes Alcegaire, a 31-year-old 6'6'' forward and Falcons alumni from 2017, showcased his skills as a champion in a recent game where he led San Jose to victory over Atletico Ciudad Nueva, one of the league's weakest teams, in a thrilling derby match in the Paraguayan LNB on Monday night. Despite facing tough competition, Alcegaire emerged as the MVP of the game, scoring an impressive 16 points and contributing 3 assists in just 21 minutes of play.
His stellar performance included not only scoring but also grabbing 3 rebounds and dishing out 3 assists against Ciudad Nueva, playing a crucial role in securing the win for his team. Alcegaire's consistent contributions on the court truly exemplified his qualities as a champion.
Throughout the season, Alcegaire has maintained relatively good statistics, averaging 13.0 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, 4.0 assists per game, and 1.5 steals per game. It is worth noting that Alcegaire is a naturalized American, bringing his talents and experience to the professional basketball scene in Paraguay.
