We bring you last week's top former Boilermakers players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Carsen Edwards, a 6'0'' shooting guard who graduated from Purdue in 2019 and helped them become Big Ten Regular Season Co-Champion that year, is currently playing professionally in Italy. He recently played a key role in Virtus Segafredo Bologna's easy 104-85 victory over the seventh-ranked Openjobmetis Varese in the Italian Serie A. Edwards scored 9 points in just 19 minutes of play, showcasing his skills on the court.
Virtus Segafredo Bologna, with a record of 23-5, is currently leading the league, and Edwards' team has secured their fifth consecutive victory. With only three games remaining in the Regular Season, each game becomes crucial as they aim for further success.
In the recent game against Varese, Edwards delivered a standout performance, contributing 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist. His efforts were pivotal in securing the win and reinforcing his status as a champion. Throughout the season, Edwards has maintained impressive individual statistics, averaging 15.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game, further solidifying his position as a finalist.
#2. Nojel Eastern, a 6'6'' guard and 26-year-old Purdue Boilermakers alum from 2020, who was honored with the Big Ten All-Defensive Team award that year, is currently playing professionally in Mexico. In a recent game, Eastern, despite his remarkable performance, was unable to help the Ostioneros de Guaymas (15-21) secure a victory against the Rayos de Hermosillo (#9), resulting in a 104-100 loss on the road. Even though Eastern contributed significantly with 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists in 36 minutes of play, his team was unable to clinch the win.
The Regular Season has already concluded, with Eastern showcasing an exceptional season individually, boasting impressive averages of 17.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. Despite his stellar performances, Eastern's team faced challenges and fell short in the face of tough competition, highlighting his skills and dedication as a champion player.
#3. Experienced Croatian player Aleksandar Marcius, a 6'10'' center who is 35 years old, graduated from DePaul in 2014 but previously played at Purdue between 2009 and 2013. He currently plays professionally in Italy. In the recent game last Sunday, Marcius, despite his very good performance, was unable to lift Treviglio (21-15) to victory. The sixth-placed Treviglio suffered a heavy 85-65 defeat on the road against the higher-ranked Latina (#3) in Group A of the competition.
Marcius stood out as the top scorer for his team, contributing 20 points and grabbing 6 rebounds during his 27 minutes on the court. His remarkable performance included not only scoring but also providing 1 assist against Latina. Despite his significant contributions, Treviglio was unable to secure the win.
Throughout this season, Marcius has been averaging 9.9 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per game, showcasing his consistency and valuable presence on the court.
