We bring you last week's top former Jaspers players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Anthony Nelson, a 6'4'' guard who graduated from Manhattan in 2023 and received the All-MAAC First Team award that year, currently plays professionally in Mexico. Last Saturday, while playing for Venados de Mazatlan, he couldn't prevent his team, with a record of 7-29, from suffering a defeat on the road against the second-ranked Frayles de Guasave, with a final score of 118-95. Despite his commendable performance, where he scored 17 points, made 7 assists, and recorded 3 steals in 38 minutes on the court, Mazatlan, the lowest-ranked team, was unable to overcome the strong opposition.
The Regular Season has already concluded, and Nelson's notable statistics for the season include an average of 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, ranking him fourth in the league in steals. In the recent game against Frayles de Guasave, he displayed an impressive performance by contributing 17 points, 3 rebounds, and 7 assists. Despite his efforts, his team fell short of securing a victory on that occasion. Nelson's consistent contributions and skills on the court have made him a standout player in the league this season.
#2. Experienced basketball player Emmanuel Andujar, standing at 6'6'' and 33 years old, is an alumnus of Jaspers, having graduated in 2015. During his time at Jaspers, he played a crucial role in helping them emerge as the champion of the MAAC Tournament in 2015. Currently, Andujar is showcasing his skills as a professional player in Puerto Rico.
Most recently, Andujar led Capitanes de Arecibo to a notable victory against the third-ranked Santeros with a score of 92-81 in the Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional. In this intense match between two top 3 ranked teams in Group A, Andujar contributed significantly by scoring 11 points in just 21 minutes of play. This win marked his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row, positioning Capitanes de Arecibo in the second spot with a record of 12-4 for the season.
This season marks Andujar's debut with Capitanes de Arecibo, and he has already made a strong impact with his impressive performance on the court. In a recent game against Aguada, he not only scored 11 points but also secured 3 rebounds and provided 2 assists, playing a key role in his team's victory. His exceptional display of skills and determination truly exemplifies the qualities of a champion.
It is noteworthy that Andujar holds dual American and Puerto Rican citizenship, allowing him to play as a domestic player in Puerto Rico. Throughout the season, he has maintained solid averages of 6.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game, further solidifying his reputation as a talented and versatile player in the league.
#3. Israeli basketball player Raziel Hayun, a 24-year-old guard standing at 6'4'', recently graduated from Manhattan in 2024 and currently plays professionally in Israel. Despite his notable efforts, Hayun, playing for M.Haifa in the Israeli National League, was unable to lead his team to victory against E.Yavne. In the match, he contributed 8 points in 21 minutes of play. The game concluded with M.Haifa (9-21) falling to E.Yavne (9-21) with a score of 92-86 on the opponent's court. E.Yavne, ranked fourth, outperformed the fifth-placed M.Haifa in the Play-Out group.
This marks Hayun's debut season with M.Haifa, and although he showcased an impressive performance by scoring 8 points, securing 2 rebounds, and providing 2 assists against E.Yavne, his team was unable to secure the win. Throughout the current season, Hayun maintains an average of 3.0 points per game and 1.2 rebounds per game.
#4. Josh Roberts, a 26-year-old center standing at 6'9'' and an alumnus of Jaspers from 2023, currently plays professionally in Spain. Despite his impressive accolades, such as being named the All-MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, he couldn't lead his team, Palma BM, to victory against Palma Fibwi in the Spanish Primera FEB (second division) matchup. The game on Friday was not one of his standout performances as he only managed to score 2 points in 12 minutes on the court.
Unfortunately, Palma BM suffered a heavy 85-59 defeat at home against the higher-ranked Palma Fibwi, who holds the 14th position in the league standings. Even though Roberts contributed 2 points and 3 rebounds in the game against Palma Fibwi, his efforts were not enough to secure a win for his team.
As the Regular Season has already concluded, it's evident that this particular game was a tough one for Josh Roberts and Palma BM. Throughout the season, Roberts has been averaging 4.7 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game.
