Here is the weekly review of the top performing Colonels alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Experienced champion Glenn Cosey, a 6'0'' point guard aged 34, graduated from EKU in 2014 and earned the COLLEGE INSIDER (OVC) Most Valuable Player award that year. Currently playing professionally in Croatia, he recently played a crucial role in his team's dominant 87-70 victory over the ninth-ranked KK Cedevita Junior Zagreb in the Croatian Favbet Premijer Liga. In this Saturday night game, Cosey showcased his skills by scoring 10 points and providing 4 assists in just 22 minutes of play.
KK Split, Cosey's team, currently holds the third position in the league standings with a record of 25-8. With only two games remaining in the Regular Season, every match is now of utmost importance for the team's playoff aspirations. Cosey's remarkable performance against Cedevita Jr., where he not only scored 10 points but also secured 1 rebound and dished out 4 assists, was instrumental in leading his team to victory and exemplified his capabilities as a finalist.
Throughout this season, Cosey has maintained an average of 7.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game over the nine games he has participated in so far. His consistent contributions on the court have been pivotal for his team's success, further solidifying his reputation as a skilled champion in the league.
#2. Nick Mayo, a 6'9'' forward and 28-year-old alumnus of the Colonels from 2019, currently plays professionally in Japan. Despite his All-OVC First Team award in 2019, Mayo couldn't help the seventh-placed Hiroshima Dragonflies (31-29) secure a victory in their recent game. The team suffered a 91-101 loss on the road to the lower-ranked (#13) Grouses in the West group. Mayo emerged as the second-highest scorer, contributing 13 points, along with 8 rebounds and 5 assists during his 37 minutes on the court.
This defeat marked the fourth consecutive loss for the Hiroshima Dragonflies, concluding their Regular Season. Mayo showcased another solid performance against Toyama Grouses, recording 13 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Despite his notable efforts, the team was unable to clinch a win.
Throughout this season, Mayo has maintained relatively good statistics, averaging 11.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game in the 49 games he has participated in so far.
#3. Marcus Lewis, a 6'5'' guard who graduated from EKU in 2014, is currently playing professionally in Romania. Recently, he showcased his skills by leading Dinamo Bucuresti to a thrilling 85-80 victory over the closely-ranked Rapid in a Romanian Liga Nationala Baschet de Masculin derby game. In this game, Lewis was the MVP, scoring 15 points and providing 6 assists in just 29 minutes of play.
Dinamo Bucuresti, currently holding the second spot in the league with a record of 20-8, owes much of its success to Lewis. His exceptional performance against Rapid, where he not only scored 15 points but also contributed with 2 rebounds and 6 assists, was instrumental in securing the win and solidifying his status as a champion.
Throughout the season, Lewis has maintained impressive statistics, averaging 14.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in the 33 games he has played so far. His consistent performance on the court has undoubtedly been a key factor in Dinamo Bucuresti's strong position in the league standings.
#4. Jomaru Brown, a 6'2'' guard and 26-year-old former Chanticleers alum from 2023, has been making waves in the professional basketball scene. Despite playing for EKU between 2018 and 2022, he has seamlessly transitioned to playing in Belgium, where he currently showcases his skills with Brussels Basketball. In a recent BNXT League game on Sunday night, Brown led his team to a resounding 93-76 victory over the 15th-ranked Leeuwarden. His standout performance earned him the title of MVP of the game, as he impressively scored 20 points in just 24 minutes of play.
This season marks Brown's first year with Brussels Basketball, and his impact on the court has been remarkable. With an average of 11.8 points, 1.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game in 16 appearances, Brown has proven to be a valuable asset to his team. Despite it only being his third season in professional basketball, his talent and dedication have shone through, culminating in his stellar performance against Leeuwarden.
Brown's 20-point contribution, coupled with 2 assists, was instrumental in securing the victory for Brussels Basketball. His ability to deliver under pressure and lead his team to success highlights his potential as a future champion in the making. As Brussels Basketball gears up for the upcoming playoffs, Brown's skills and leadership will undoubtedly be crucial in their pursuit of becoming the ultimate finalist in the BNXT League.
#5. Kosovan Dardan Kapiti, a 26-year-old forward standing at 6'10'' and a graduate of EKU in 2023, is currently making waves in the professional basketball scene in Kosovo. Having previously helped his college team to become a CBI Championship Finalist, Kapiti now plays for a team in Kosovo and recently showcased his talent in a game against Bashkimi.
In a recent match in the Kosovan Art Motion Superliga, Kapiti led his team, Trepca, to a convincing 94-79 victory over the closely-ranked Bashkimi, who had a record of 20-8. Despite being only in his third season of professional basketball, Kapiti displayed his skills by contributing 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in just 20 minutes of play. This performance was particularly notable as it was a crucial game between two top 4 ranked teams in the league.
KB Trepca Mitrovice, Kapiti's team, currently holds the top spot in the league with a record of 25-3. Their recent win marked their impressive 20th consecutive victory, highlighting their dominance in the league. Kapiti's consistent contributions on the court have been instrumental in his team's success, with an average of 8.2 points per game and 3.8 rebounds per game in the 33 games he has played this season.
Kapiti's performance against Bashkimi not only secured a crucial win for his team but also showcased his abilities as a champion player, proving that he has the potential to continue making a significant impact in the world of basketball.
#6. Isaiah Cozart, a 6'7'' forward and 25-year-old Colonels alum from 2024, currently plays professionally in France. Despite his best efforts, he could not lead Sluc Nancy Basket Pro to victory against Cholet Basket. In the game, Cozart showcased his skills by scoring 6 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and making 3 blocks in 27 minutes of play. His individual performance was commendable, as he contributed 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assists against Cholet. However, his team fell short, losing 94-91 to their opponents.
Throughout the season, Cozart has been a consistent performer, averaging 6.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game. His shot-blocking prowess ranks him as the second-best shot-blocker in the league, showcasing his defensive capabilities. Despite the outcome of the game against Cholet, Cozart remains a key player for his team, demonstrating his value as a champion on the court.
#7. Collin Cooper, a 6'2'' guard who is 25 years old and graduated from EKU in 2024, played a crucial role in helping his team win the A-Sun Regular Season Champion title that year. Currently playing professionally in Romania, he recently faced a tough match with Targu Jiu, who unfortunately lost to the higher-ranked Targu Mures (#10) by a narrow margin of 92-91. Despite Cooper's commendable performance of scoring 14 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists in 36 minutes, his team fell short in securing the victory.
Throughout the season, Cooper has been showcasing exceptional skills, averaging 17.3 points per game, along with 3.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.3 steals in 32 games. Despite the outcome of the last game, Cooper's individual performance has been consistently impressive, reflecting his talent and dedication on the court.
#8. Australian champion Lachlan Anderson, a 6'9'' forward and 28-year-old Colonels alumnus from 2020 who currently plays professionally in Australia, was unable to lead Ipswich Force (1-3) to victory in their recent game. Despite his stellar performance, the tenth-placed Ipswich Force suffered a tough 102-83 defeat in Loganholme against the second-ranked Thunder in the North group.
Anderson achieved a double-double by contributing 12 points, grabbing 10 rebounds, and adding 3 assists in 38 minutes of play. His remarkable performance against Logan Thunder showcased his scoring ability, rebounding prowess, and playmaking skills. However, despite his standout efforts, his team was unable to secure the win.
Throughout the season, Anderson has maintained impressive individual statistics, averaging 23.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game over four games. His consistent high-level performance highlights his importance to Ipswich Force as they strive for success in the league.
#9. Eric Stutz, a 33-year-old forward standing at 6'8'' who graduated from EKU in 2015, currently plays professionally in Spain. He played a crucial role in Castello's recent triumph over Cordoba CB, with a resounding 83-59 victory in the Spanish Segunda FEB (third division) game held on Sunday night. Stutz showcased his skills by scoring an impressive 19 points, securing 9 rebounds, and providing 1 assist during the game, helping his team secure a notable win. His remarkable performance not only contributed significantly to the team's success but also highlighted his prowess as a champion on the court. Throughout the season, Stutz has maintained impressive statistics, averaging 13.0 points per game and 4.3 rebounds per game over 21 games, further solidifying his reputation as a finalist in the league.
