Here is the weekly review of the top performing Colonials alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Experienced champion Karvel Anderson, a 6'2'' shooting guard who is 34 years old and graduated from RMU in 2014, is currently playing professionally in Italy. In a recent Italian Serie A2 game, Anderson led his team, Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia, to a crucial victory over the closely-ranked Puglia with a score of 97-90. He put on an outstanding performance, scoring an impressive 27 points in just 33 minutes of play, earning him the title of MVP of the game.
Despite Pistoia's current standing as 18th in the league with a record of 9-28, Anderson's leadership and skills as a champion have been instrumental in their success. This season marks his first with the team, and his impact has been felt both on and off the court. With only one game remaining in the Play-Out Round, Anderson's presence will be critical as his team strives for success.
Anderson's performance against Puglia not only highlighted his scoring ability but also showcased his all-around talent, as he contributed 3 rebounds and 1 assist to the game. Throughout the season, he has maintained solid statistics, averaging 15.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game in the 14 games he has played so far. As a proven champion, Anderson continues to make significant contributions to his team's success on their journey to the finals.
#2. Swiss champion Kevin Martina, a 6'7'' power forward who is 25 years old and an alumnus of Colonials from 2024, currently plays professionally in Switzerland. In the recent game, Martina unfortunately could not lead his team, Union NE (13-11), to victory. Despite his commendable performance, Union NE was narrowly defeated 71-70 at home by the higher-ranked (#4) team, Pully.
Martina showcased his skills by scoring 12 points and securing 3 rebounds in the game against Pully. However, despite his strong efforts on the court, Union NE fell short of securing the victory. Throughout the season, Martina has been maintaining relatively good statistics, averaging 10.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game in the 28 games he has played so far.
#3. French champion Yannis Mendy, a 6'8'' forward who is 30 years old and graduated from RMU in 2020 after helping them win the NEC Tournament that year, is currently playing professionally in France. Recently, Mendy played for FOS Provence Basket in the French Nationale Masculine 1 (third division) but unfortunately could not lead his team to victory against Tours. In a closely contested match, Mendy managed to score 4 points and secure 4 rebounds in just 16 minutes of play.
Despite Mendy's solid performance, FOS Provence Basket, who currently holds the third position with a record of 26-13, suffered a 69-79 defeat on the road against Tours, who are ranked sixth in Group A. With only one more game left to play in the Second Stage, the upcoming match holds significant importance for Mendy and his team.
Throughout the season, Mendy has been averaging 4.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game in the 36 games he has played. Even though his team faced a setback in the recent game against Tours, Mendy's consistent contributions on the court have been noteworthy, showcasing his skills as a talented champion player.
#4. Cypriot champion Roberto Mantovani, a 6'8'' forward who is 32 years old and an alumnus of Colonials from 2018, currently plays professionally in Cyprus. Recently, he was part of the APOEL team that faced off against AEK Larnaca in the Cypriot ECOMMBX Basket League. Despite Mantovani's solid performance of scoring 6 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, and providing 1 assist in 26 minutes of play, APOEL was defeated by AEK Larnaca with a final score of 71-85.
Mantovani has been consistently contributing to his team this season, averaging 5.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game over 18 games. It is noteworthy that Mantovani holds both American and Cypriot citizenship, allowing him to compete in Cyprus as a domestic player.
