EuroBasket Pro Runnin'Rebels Weekly Update

We bring you last week's top former Runnin'Rebels players who are currently playing in pro basketball.



   #1. Christian Jones (6'7''-F-93, graduated '17, plays pro in Ukraine) led Khimik to a victory over the closely-ranked Kyiv Basket (19-2) 65-60 in the Ukrainian Superleague on Saturday night. He was MVP of the game. Jones scored 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 33 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. BK Khimik-OPZ Yuhzny (18-6) is placed first in the Superleague. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. There are only four games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Jones has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages 16.5ppg, 6.2rpg, 2.4apg and 1.3spg.

   #2. Quintrell Thomas (6'8''-PF-90, graduated '13, plays in Israel) was the main contributor in a Maccabi Hod Hasharon's victory against the closely-ranked H.Haifa (8-12) crushing them 107-77 in the Israeli National League (second division) in Tuesday night's game. He was MVP of the game. Thomas had a double-double by scoring 33 points and getting 14 rebounds. He also added 3 blocks. Maccabi Hod Hasharon (8-12) is placed tenth in the National League. Thomas has very impressive stats this year 22.9ppg, 12.9rpg and 1.5bpg in 20 games he played so far. He is a naturalized Jamaican.

   #3. Carlos Lopez-Sosa (6'10''-F-90, graduated '14, currently in Mexico) contributed to a 1-point Angeles' victory against the fourth-ranked Abejas (18-21) 73-72 in the Mexican LNBP (second division) last Tuesday. He was MVP of the game. Lopez-Sosa recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and getting 16 rebounds in 40 minutes. Angeles de Puebla (13-27) is placed seventh in South group. The Regular Season already ended. This season Lopez-Sosa has very high stats. He averages 16.5ppg, 8.3rpg and 2.6apg.

   #4. Experienced Rene Rougeau (6'6''-F/G-86, graduated '09, plays pro in Finland) contributed to a 2-point Kauhajoki's victory against the ninth-ranked Helsinki Seagulls (10-18) 74-72 in the Finnish Korisliiga on Friday night. Rougeau was MVP of the game. He scored 19 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and made 2 blocks. Karhu Kauhajoki (19-9) is placed second in the Korisliiga. Rougeau has very impressive stats this year 15.2ppg, 7.3rpg, 3.4apg, 1.5bpg and 2.0spg in 28 games.

   #5. Rashad Vaughn (6'6''-SG-96, graduated '15, plays in the NBA G League) could not help the Delaware Blue Coats (14-20) in their game last Wednesday. Despite Vaughn's very good performance the Delaware Blue Coats (#4) were edged 117-115 on the road by the Capital City Go-Go. He was the top scorer with 22 points. Vaughn also added 9 assists in 37 minutes. It's Vaughn's first season with the team. This year he has very high stats. Vaughn averages 18.2ppg, 3.6rpg and 3.0apg.

   #6. Khem Birch (6'10''-C-92, graduated '14, currently in the NBA) contributed to an easy victory against the Charlotte Hornets crushing them 127-89 in the NBA last Thursday. He scored 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. This year Birch averages 3.5ppg and 3.2rpg in 27 games.

   #7. Ike Nwamu (6'5''-G-93, graduated '16, plays pro in the NBA G League) contributed to a Fort Wayne Mad Ants' victory against the Lakeland Magic 127-123 in the NBA G League on Wednesday night. He scored 18 points and added 4 assists in 36 minutes. This season Nwamu averages 8.9ppg, 1.5rpg and 2.3apg. He is a naturalized Nigerian.

   #8. Gaston Essengue (6'8''-C-83, graduated '07, plays in Argentina) was not able to help Quilmes MP in their game against La Union in the Argentinian La Liga. He recorded 8 points. His team was crushed by 30 points 103-73. This year Essengue averages 8.7ppg and 4.7rpg in 12 games.

   #9. Stephen Zimmerman (7'0''-F-96, graduated '16, currently in the NBA G League) was not able to secure a victory for the Westchester Knicks in their game against the Capital City Go-Go in the NBA G League. He scored 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 18 minutes. His team were edged 118-115 in the NBA G League. This season Zimmerman averages 7.7ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.6apg.

   #10. Jordan Johnson (5'11''-PG-95, graduated '18, plays pro in the NBA G League) couldn't help the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in their game against the Northern Arizona Suns in the NBA G League. Johnson scored 8 points and added 4 passes. His team lost 112-117 in the NBA G League. This year he averages 6.7ppg, 2.1rpg and 5.1apg in 18 games. He is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas.
