No. 1 GCU Defends Its Title At The 2024 Hercules Tires WAC Tournament-Mar 17, 2024
No. 1 seed Grand Canyon defended its conference championship with a physical 89-74 victory over No. 3 seed UT Arlington on Saturday evening to close the 2024 Hercules Tires WAC Men’s Basketball Tournament championship game at the Orleans Arena. The Lopes clinched their third NCAA tournament berth in four years with the triumph in WACVegas, winning their sixth consecutive game overall in the WAC Tournament dating back to the start of the 2023 event. GCU established a single-game tournament record with 50 free throws attempted and 37 free throws made in the contest against UTA. Tyon Grant-Foster (6'7''-G), the reigning WAC Player of the Year, was named the University Credit Union WAC Most Outstanding Player after averaging 25.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in two tournament starts. Grant-Foster tallied 22 points, nine boards and three steals against UTA. Grant-Foster was joined on the 2024 University Credit Union WAC Men’s Basketball All-Tournament Team by fellow Rayshon Harrison (6'4''-G) and Lok Wur (6'9''-F). Rayshon Harrison averaged 18.0 points and 3.5 assists for the tournament, while Wur registered 14.0 points per contest while shooting 57.1 percent as a key reserve for GCU. UT Arlington’s Phillip Russell (5'10''-PG-1999) (23.3 points per game) and Shemar Wilson (6'9''-F-2001) (15.0 points, 5.3 rebounds per game) rounded out the all-tournament team.
