North Dakota Outlasts South Dakota in Double-Overtime in Great West Tournament Finals

OREM, Utah -- Josh Schuler hit a 3-pointer with four seconds remaining in double-overtime to lift North Dakota over South Dakota, 77-76, in the 2011 Great West Conference Basketball Tournament at the UCCU Center.
The double-overtime was a fitting ending to a tournament that had seen all six of its games decided by a combined 11 points.
Second-team All-GWC performer and all-tournament honoree Troy Huff led the Fighting Sioux with 15 points, while honorable mention All-GWC selection and tournament MVP Patrick Mitchell (6'8''-G) added 14 points. Jamal Webb posted a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds and Aaron Anderson contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.
'It was an unbelievable game for two programs and fans, and that's how March Madness should be,' said UND head coach Brian Jones . 'It was a great tournament with a lot of close games. I couldn't be more proud of my guys. They did it all weekend long. All three games came down to a couple possessions, and we made enough plays down the stretch and had a lot of toughness and resiliency.'
North Dakota took a five-point lead with five seconds remaining in regulation on two free throws by Anderson. South Dakota's Jake Thomas (6'3''-G-91), an honorable mention all-conference honoree, answered with a 3-pointer with 41 seconds left and then Kendall Cutler (6'0''-G-89) tied the score at 50-50 on a layup, was fouled, but missed the free throw and the game went to overtime.
In the first OT, UND enjoyed its largest lead of eight, 60-52, on two free throws by Anderson at the 1:32 mark. The Coyotes steadily cut into the Sioux lead and tied the game at the buzzer on a 25-foot 3-pointer by second-team All-GWC selection Louie Krogman (6'1''-G-89) that bounced around before falling in, sending the game to double-overtime.
The second overtime went back-and-forth with South Dakota taking a four-point lead with 15 seconds remaining on two free throws by Thomas which would be USD's final points. Webb hit a layup for the Sioux with 11 seconds left before Schuler hit his game-winner.
Cutler, last year's GWC Tournament MVP was a repeat selection on the all-tournament team and finished the game with 24 points. Also in double-figures for the Coyotes were Krogman with 17 points, Thomas with 11 points and Mitchell Bouie (6'4''-G-87) with 10 points and eight rebounds. Ricardo Andreotti (6'8''-F) pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds.
'It was a hard-fought game, I thought our kids battled,' said USD head coach Dave Boots . 'There were so many plays that we're going to rehash, and the kids are going to have to deal with that for a while. This is one you won't forget for a long, long time.'
