 WKU Claims First CUSA Tournament Title, McHenry Crowned MVP-Mar 17, 2024
No. 3 WKU hoisted the CUSA Basketball Championship trophy for the first time in program history after defeating No. 5 UTEP, 78-71, in Saturday's title showdown. Junior guard Don McHenry (6'2''-G), the CUSA Men's Basketball Championship Most Valuable Player, scored a game-high 25 points on 9-16 shooting, including 15 points on 6-11 shooting in the second half. He also tallied three of his four steals in the final 20 minutes. Senior guard Brandon Newman (6'5''-G-2001) added 15 points and was named to the all-tournament team, along with graduate forward Rodney Howard (6'1''-F), who averaged 10 points and four rebounds per contest. The Hilltoppers trailed 53-47 with 13 minutes remaining before rattling off a 20-4 run to take the lead for good. McHenry accounted for half of the team's points during that stretch.
