New Mexico Highlands wins programs first #RMACmbb Tournament Championship - Mar 10, 2019
GOLDEN, COLO.-The 2019 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Men's Basketball Tournament concluded tonight as the No. 7 seeded New Mexico Highlands upended No. 4 seed Black Hills State to win its programs first RMAC Tournament Title by a score of 79-66. New Mexico Highlands competed in its second RMAC Tournament Title game and first since 2010 while Black Hills State played in its first RMAC Title game. The Cowboys impressive run started in the quarterfinals by defeating No. 2 seed Dixie State, 86-82. They then followed that up with a semifinal defeat of No. 3 Regis 87-77. Black Hills State competed in its first RMAC Tournament Title game after defeating No. 5 seeded Colorado Mesa, 73-70 followed by a big upset of No. 12 nationally ranked and No. 1 seed in the tournament, Colorado School of Mines, 86-77. Gerad Davis (6'4''-G) and Raquan Mitchell (6'3''-G) helped lead the Cowboys to the Championship scoring 21 and 17 points respectively. Cowboy's Nnamdi Okoroafor (6'2''-G-80) was one point away from posting a double-double recording 12 rebounds and nine points. The Yellow Jackets were led by a trio of scorers who scored over 10 points led by Makaleb McInnis (6'2''-G) who netted 16 points. Black Hills State's Tyler Oliver was one point away from recording a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points. The Cowboys will receive an automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Tournament. The RMAC teams will find out their seed and opponents as the 64-team field will be announced tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. MST during the NCAA Selection Show.
