Florida Southern tops Indiana (PA) for D-II basketball championship - Mar 29, 2015

Moc if you buck. That was the refrain at the Ford Center in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday, as the Florida Southern Moccasins won their first NCAA D-II championship since 1981. The Mocs cruised to a 77-62 victory over Indiana (PA), with the outcome rarely, if ever, in doubt. They finish the season 36-1, closing a remarkable campaign with the title victory, during which they shot 50.9 percent overall and 52 percent from long range. Kevin Capers (6'2''-G-93) led the way for the Mocs with 23 points and a 5-of-9 mark from outside, while Dylan Travis (6'3''-G) added 18 points and Bubby Johnson (6'8''-F-92) hauled in eight rebounds to go with 11 points and three assists. IUP tried to respond with a major edge on the glass that included 19 offensive rebounds, but their 31.1 percent mark from the floor did them in. Devante Chance (5'11''-PG) scored 17 points with eight rebounds and five assists but shot 5-of-18, while Shawn Dyer (6'0''-PG) shot 3-of-11 en route to 16 points with eight rebounds. Florida Southern got a scare from West Georgia in the second round of the tournament and again from Bellarmine in the semifinals but otherwise cruised through the field. They're now the ninth D-II program to take home at least two national championships.
