Drury Upsets Bellarmine to Win GLVC Championship - Mar 9, 2015

Drury University captured its third Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Sunday with a 77-70 upset victory over top seed and nationally second-ranked Bellarmine University at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri.
With the win, the Panthers earn the conference's automatic qualifying bid into the NCAA Division II national tournament, which reveals its 64-team field later this evening at 10:30 p.m. EDT on NCAA.com.
Drury (21-8) is now a perfect 3-for-3 in GLVC Championship finals as the Panthers previously won the conference crown in 2008 and 2012.
After needing overtime sessions to claim its quarterfinal and semifinal victories, Drury opted to end the road to the title in regulation, denying the Knights (27-3) their third league title in five appearances in the finals.
Kameron Bundy (6'2''-G) was 10-of-17 from the floor to finish with 27 points in the win, just one point shy of the game high set by Bellarmine's Jake Thelen (6'7''-F), the GLVC Player of the Year. Bundy was named Most Valuable Player at the conclusion of the event, and joined his teammate Ben Fisher (6'0''-PG), Bellarmine's Thelen and Chris Whitehead (5'9''-PG), and University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Jimmy Gavin (6'3''-G) on the All-Tournament Team.
While Thelen led Bellarmine Sunday with 28 points and Bundy paced the Knights, the boost the Panthers needed to get by the GLVC East Division Champions came from Fisher. The walk-on senior was 7-of-8 from the floor, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, to finish with 19 points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
Drury finished the game shooting 60.9 percent from the floor (28-46), and shot at a 69.2 percent clip (18-26) in the second half after trailing by six at intermission, 35-29.
Following the men's title, the Drury women's team claimed the GLVC Championship, marking the third time in conference history a school has swept the men's and women's titles in the same tournament. Drury accomplished the feat in 2008, while former member Northern Kentucky did the same in 2009.
