Regular Season Day 5: Georgia V. - Atlanta S. 56-73

Bottom-ranked Vipers (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 73-56 loss to second ranked Savage (4-1) in on Sunday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. They dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Vipers' 28 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was guard Marquis Barnes (183-86, college: Gordon CC) who scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Montaque Wright (189-96, college: Stevenson) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Wright is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Joe Wimbley produced 22 points and 8 rebounds and guard Rashad Clemens added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Savage keeps a position of league leader, which they share with GIE Maile M. Loser Vipers still closes the standings with five games lost. Savage will face Energy (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Vipers will play against the league's leader GIE Maile Matrix in Morrow and look forward to get finally their first victory.
