An interesting game for Blaze (8-0) which hosted in 3rd ranked Phoenix (5-3). Top-ranked Blaze managed to get a 13-point victory 93-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Phoenix. Blaze looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Blaze made 7 blocks. Canadian-American guard Ameela Li (168-1997, college: Pacific) orchestrated the victory with a triple-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 14 assists. Guard Doris Jones (175-1998, college: UCSB) contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Maddison Glass (163-1997, college: A&M-Commerce) replied with 19 points and 8 rebounds for Phoenix. Undefeated Blaze have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record. Phoenix at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost.
Bottom-ranked Riptide is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their eighth consecutive match to second ranked Wolves (7-1) 109-78. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman IimarI Thomas (178-2000, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (on 22-of-27 shooting from the field) and Rebecca Harris who added 16 points, 19 rebounds and 14 assists during the contest. Forward Jhaina Stephens (185, college: SF State) responded with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 11 rebounds. Wolves have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record behind leader Blaze. Riptide at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost.
The game in Berkeley was also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Valkyrie (4-4) played at the court of sixth ranked Royals (3-5). Royals managed to secure a 6-point victory 96-90 on Saturday. The winners were led by Jasmine Guinn who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. Even 23 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists by Destiny Jackson did not help to save the game for Titans. Defending champion moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Swish. Titans lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with four games lost.
In the last game of round 8 Reign smashed Swish on the road 80-55.
