Cal Poly Pomona Broncos Win it All! - Mar 13, 2013

WALNUT CREEK The Cal Poly Pomona men's basketball team won their first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament after defeating Chico State 78-64, Saturday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario.

The Broncos have cleaned up when it comes to awards and accomplishments this season -- capturing the 2013 regular-season title in addition to this year's tournament title, as well as naming three to the All-CCAA team.

In addition to All-Conference Awards, head coach Greg Kamansky was named the CCAA Coach of the Year, while senior guard Mitchel Anderson (6'4''-G) received the Most Valuable Player award.

Cal Poly Pomona and Chico State began the game very tight, but the Wildcats chances at victory began to slip away as early as 12:46 in the first half. Terrence Drisdom (6'3''-G) made a shot to put the Broncos up two points and give them their lead that woudl hold until the end of regulation.

Five Individual -- Anderson, Drisdom, Mohamed Fall (6'8''-F-88), Barry Bell, and DeRonn Scott -- scored double-digits, with Anderson leading the pack with 15 points. Anderson also led the Broncos defensive efforts with 12 rebounds, all defensive on the night.

Making the All-Tournament team for Chico State was senior, Amir Carraway (6'5''-F-91) and Rashad Parker (6'0''-G). Both had an identical night with 12 points scored, while Parker pulled down a team-high of eight rebounds. Carraway, who scored a career-high of 25 points. Parker guided his team to a 1-1 weekend after scoring 23 points, nabbing 15 rebounds, and dishing out nine assists.

The Award just kept coming for the Broncos with three individuals being named to the All-Tournament team. Mohamed Fall and Terrence Drisdom were honored to the team after Fall scored 16 points, 13 of which were in the championship final and Drisdom scored 18 points, while tallying seven assists and seven steals.

Receiving the tournament's Most Valuable Player award was Mitchel Anderson after playing in his 10th and final CCAA Championships game. Anderson now holds two new conference tournament records for career points and rebounds with totals of 122 and 53 respectively.
