Loyola, La. claims 2019 SSAC Championship - Mar 3, 2019

No. 4 seed Loyola (La.) def. No. 7 seed Middle Georgia State 78-74 to win the 2019 SSAC Men's Basketball Championship, presented by Newk's Eatery. With the win, the Wolf Pack earn an automatic bid to the 2019 NAIA National Championship.

Loyola out-shot the Knights 50% to 36% from the field and made 40 trips to the FT line, compared to 20 for the Knights
Championship MVP Myles Burns (6'5''-G/F) led with 17 points and 12 boards, Terry Smith (6'5''-G/F), had 15 points and 11 rebounds and Ethan Turner (6'0''-PG) finished with 14 points
The Knights got 19 points on 4-of-6 shooting from deep from Chancellor Lockett (6'1''-G), 14 points from Tyrone Young (6'4''-G) and 12 points and four assists from Antony Edwards (6'2''-G)


Additional Notes
This is Loyola's men's basketball program's first conference title
Loyola is the first school to sweep the SSAC M&W Basketball Championships since Southern Poly in 2009-10
Middle Georgia led 18-13 with 12:49 left in the first, but Loyola used a 23-8 run to grab a double-digit lead at the 2:32 mark before settling for a seven-point advantage at the break
The Wolf Pack held a 62-49 lead with 7:12 to play, but Middle Georgia went on a 16-3 run to tie it up with 2:22 to go as Lockett delivered three-straight triples
Turner hit a 3-pointer to give Loyola a 70-67 lead with 1:28 to go, which they would not surrender thanks to going 8-for-10 from the charity stripe the rest of the way
