Northwestern Clinches 2026 GPAC Tournament Championship-Mar 5, 2026
Northwestern College has won the 2026 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Tournament after defeating Concordia University in the championship game on Tuesday night in Orange City, Iowa.
Northwestern College has won the 2026 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Men's Basketball Tournament after defeating Concordia University in the championship game on Tuesday night in Orange City, Iowa.
No. 2 Northwestern shot 60.6 percent from the field and 50 percent from three to take down No. 4 seed Concordia 102-72. The Bulldogs were held to shooting 47.4 percent from the field and 40 percent from behind the arc.
Morningside will receive the GPAC regular season automatic berth to the NAIA National Men's Basketball Championship as the number one seed. The Red Raiders will receive the second automatic berth to the NAIA National Men's Basketball Championship from the GPAC for winning the tournament.
A field of 64 teams will make the NAIA Men's Basketball Postseason this year. Games will be played at First and Second Round Sites on March 13-14 (four team pods). The 16 opening round winners will play in the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship is set for March 19-24, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, at Municipal Auditorium.

Jesse Van Kalsbeek, forward from the Northwestern College, IA, was named the Player of the Year at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. He was also selected to the First Team. With Van Kalsbeek's excellent performance, the Northwestern College, IA achieved the best record of the season in the league, finishing with an impressive 24 to 5 in the regular season. With finesse and precision, Van Kalsbeek claimed the second position in rebounds per game, delivering a stellar over 12 rebounds per game average. Van Kalsbeek led the NAIA in points per game with almost 28. He has totalled 24 games of 20 or more points on the year and recorded 30 or more points in 6 games. Van Kalsbeek registered double-doubles in 22 games during the event. His 47 points against the William Penn were the most he scored in the 25 26 season. He played in the final of the Bevo Francis Award Top 100 in 2025.
Sutton Arend, guard from the Mount Marty University, was chosen to the First Team of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. He averaged over 18 points and 5 rebounds per game in the league. Arend's 30 points against the York University, NE were the most he scored in the 25 26 season. He was selected to to All-GPAC First Team in 2026.
Daniel Brocaille, forward from the Morningside College, was named to the First Team at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
