William Carey (Miss.) Wins 2018 SSAC Men's Basketball Championship - Mar 5, 2018

No. 1 William Carey (Miss.) defeated No. 2 Dalton State (Ga.) 83-76 to win the 2018 SSAC Men's Basketball Championship, presented by Newk's Eatery, Saturday. The All-Tournament Team was also announced, led by Tournament MVP Troy Salvant (6'1''-G).
Both teams will next play at the 2018 NAIA Men's Basketball National Tournament, with details to be announced next week by the NAIA.

The Crusaders shot 50% for the game and 46% from 3-point range, compared to 44% and 35% for the Roadrunners
Salvant led the Crusaders with 20 points, while Maurice Stephens (6'4''-G/F) added 17 points, six rebounds and four assists and John Cornish (6'5''-G/F-96) finished with 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting from distance
Dalton State got 23 points from Reed Dungan (6'1''-G), 23 points from Isaiah Box (6'1''-G) on 5-of-10 shooting from 3-point range and six points and six rebounds from Carnilious Simmons

How It Happened
The opening half was back-and-forth, as Dalton State led 8-5 early, before the Crusaders used a 10-3 spurt to claim a 19-11 lead on a three-point play from Jamarri Johnson (5'11''-PG). Dalton State tied it at 36-36 on a Box 3-pointer before the Crusaders took a 38-36 lead into the break
Neither team pulled ahead by more than four points in the second half until a Salvant three-ball made it 77-72 William Carey with 41 ticks left. From there, the Crusaders went 6-for-6 from the free throw line
