No. 2 Dalton State (Ga.) defeated No. 1 William Carey (Miss.) 90-80 to win the 2017 SSAC Men's Basketball Championship, presented by Newk's Eatery. Dalton State receives a bid to the NAIA National Tournament, while William Carey received one for winning the regular season title.
Inside The Box Score The Roadrunners shot 49% from the field, including a blistering 62% in a second half that saw them score 58 points Dalton also got a big advantage from the charity stripe, hitting 23-of-32, compared to 7-of-11 for the Crusaders, while Isaiah Box (6'1''-G) hit more 3-pointers (6-of-11) than William Carey hit as a team (5-of-23) Sayvon Wilson (6'4''-F) led everyone with 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, while also grabbing nine rebounds for the Roadrunners. Additional Notes William Carey led for the first 17:51, but could only stretch the lead to six before the Roadrunners claimed a brief 31-30 advantage on a Box 3-pointer with 2:34 to play. The Crusaders bounced back to take a 35-32 lead into the break After each team held a lead early in the second half, Woodson gave William Carey a 56-52 lead with 9:47 to play on a bucket. From there, Dalton used a 16-4 run to claim a 68-60 advantage with 6:14 to go on a score by Wilson Down the stretch, Dalton State stretched the lead to as many as 13 and William Carey could not get within one score
