We bring you last week's top former Spartans players who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Duke Shelton, a 30-year-old basketball player who stands at 6'10'' and plays as a center/forward, graduated from Tampa in 2018 where he was recognized with the All-SSC Defensive Player of the Year award. Currently, he is showcasing his skills as a professional player in the United Kingdom.
In a recent game, Shelton, representing Manchester Basketball with a record of 19-13, faced off against the formidable Cheshire Phoenix, who held a slightly better record of 20-12 in the British Super League Basketball competition. Despite Shelton's efforts on the court, where he managed to score 4 points and secure 5 rebounds in just 12 minutes of play, Manchester Basketball suffered a heavy defeat of 106-78 at the hands of Cheshire Phoenix.
Shelton displayed a commendable performance against Cheshire Phoenix, contributing significantly with his 4 points and 5 rebounds. However, his individual efforts were not enough to secure a victory for his team in the game.
In the ongoing season, Shelton has maintained an average of 4.1 points per game and 3.6 rebounds per game across the 27 games he has participated in so far.
#2. Spanish champion Alberto Moreno, a 6'3'' guard who is 29 years old, is a Lions alumnus from 2020 but previously played in Tampa between 2016 and 2019. Currently playing professionally in Spain, Moreno recently showcased his skills in a game where his team, SBA (18-8), faced off against Caja 87 (18-8) in the Spanish Segunda FEB, the third division of Spanish basketball.
Despite a valiant effort, Moreno and SBA were unable to secure a victory, falling 90-89 to Caja 87 in a closely contested match. Moreno contributed significantly to his team's efforts, scoring 5 points and delivering 3 assists in just 17 minutes of play. This strong performance by the finalist played a pivotal role in keeping the game competitive.
Throughout the season, Moreno has been a key player for SBA, averaging 6.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.5 steals per game in the 27 games he has played so far. His consistent contributions on both ends of the court have been instrumental in SBA's success, showcasing his abilities as a skilled champion in Spanish basketball.
