Here is the weekly review of the top performing Trojans alumni, who are currently playing in pro basketball.
#1. Terrence Hunter-Whitfield, a 6'5'' forward aged 27, is a Virginia St. graduate from 2023 who currently plays professionally in Serbia. Recently, he showcased his talent by leading KK Zlatibor to a remarkable 94-89 victory against the 18th-ranked Crvena zvezda in the Serbian Meridianbet Kosarkaska lige Srbije during a Friday night game. In just 19 minutes of play, he scored 13 points, displaying exceptional accuracy with a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line.
KK Zlatibor Cajetina, with a record of 27-3, holds the top spot in the league standings, with Hunter-Whitfield making significant contributions in his debut season with the team. His impressive performance against Crvena zvezda, where he scored 13 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, and provided 1 assist, was instrumental in securing the victory, further solidifying his position as a champion. Throughout the season, Hunter-Whitfield has maintained relatively strong statistics, averaging 13.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game in the 33 games he has played so far, showcasing his skill and value as a finalist.
#2. Andrew Corum, a 6'7'' forward and 28-year-old Trojans alumni from 2020, who helped them secure the CIAA Northern Division Regular Season Champion title that year, currently plays professionally in Argentina. Despite his best efforts, Corum could not lead Obras (23-15) to victory against Instituto (21-16) in the Argentinian La Liga. In a closely contested match, Obras was narrowly defeated 75-73 at home by the lower-ranked (#7) Instituto, with Corum contributing 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists in 23 minutes of play. Although he put up an impressive performance, his team ultimately fell short of securing the win.
Throughout this season, Corum has maintained an average of 7.0 points per game and 6.1 rebounds per game across 43 games, showcasing his consistent contribution to the team's performance.
#3. Elijah Moore, a 6'8'' forward who graduated from Virginia St. in 2017, has been a key player for the Petersburg Cavaliers in the ECBL. Recently, he played a pivotal role in their victory over the North Carolina Capitals, scoring an impressive 28 points, grabbing 5 rebounds, and dishing out 6 assists. This outstanding performance earned him the MVP title of the game and contributed significantly to his team's success, making him the champion of the match.
With a remarkable season average of 26.9 points, 7.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game in eight games, Moore has been showcasing exceptional skills on the court. Having spent seven years with the Petersburg Cavaliers, his experience and talent have been instrumental in the team's undefeated 10-0 record this season.
The game against the North Carolina Capitals was a highlight in the Conference Northern division, featuring two of the top-ranked teams. With only four games remaining in the East Coast Basketball League Regular Season, each match becomes critical for Moore and his team as they aim to maintain their winning streak and secure a strong position for the playoffs.
It is worth noting that Moore's participation in the Eurobasket Summer League played a significant role in advancing his professional basketball career. His dedication, skill set, and consistent performance have not only elevated his individual success but also contributed to the overall success of the Petersburg Cavaliers.
#4. Jamal Washington, a 6'2'' guard who graduated in 2020, made a significant impact by helping his team win the CIAA Northern Division Regular Season Champion title that year. Currently playing professionally in the ECBL, Washington showcased his skills by leading the Park City Dreamers to a resounding 123-94 victory over the Carolina Panthers, who had a 0-10 record, in a recent East Coast Basketball League game. His stellar performance earned him the MVP title, as he contributed 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.
Despite the Park City Dreamers having a somewhat lackluster 4-7 record this season, Washington's leadership on the court has been instrumental in securing three consecutive victories for the team. With only two games remaining in the East Coast Basketball League Regular Season, each match holds great importance in determining playoff qualification.
This marks Washington's first year with the team, and he has made a strong impression with his impressive statistics. Averaging 16.7 points per game, along with 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.1 steals in 10 games, Washington has demonstrated his all-around skills and value as a key player. His exceptional performance against the Carolina Panthers highlights his ability to rise to the occasion and lead his team to victory, solidifying his status as a true champion.
