Every week we bring you a list of the top former Buccaneers players who continue their career in pro basketball.
Notice impressive performance of Elvar Fridriksson (14 points), Yunio Barrueta (13 points), and Daniel Mortensen (11 points).



   #1. Icelandic point guard Elvar Fridriksson, standing at 6'0'' and aged 31, a Barry University graduate from 2018 where he received the prestigious All-SSC Player of the Year award, currently showcases his skills playing professionally in Poland. In a recent game, Fridriksson led Anwil Wloclawek to a convincing 101-87 victory over Miasto Szkla, a team struggling at 4-23 in the Polish Orlen Basket Liga. The champion scored 14 points and delivered 9 assists during his 30 minutes on the court. Anwil Wloclawek, with a record of 14-12, currently holds the tenth position in the league standings. Fridriksson's stellar performance marked his team's third consecutive win, highlighting their potential as they head towards the end of the Regular Season with only four games remaining. Every upcoming game is now crucial as the team vies for a higher standing. This season marks Fridriksson's debut with Anwil Wloclawek, and he has already made a significant impact. Notably, in a recent game against Krosno, he contributed 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 9 assists, once again showcasing his prowess on the court. With an impressive average of 13.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game (ranking fourth in the league) across 26 games played, Fridriksson has proven himself as a finalist in the making.

   #2. Experienced champion Yunio Barrueta, a 6'5'' forward/guard who is 33 years old and an alumnus of the Buccaneers from 2016, currently plays professionally in Spain. He recently led Monbus Obradoiro CAB Santiago de Compostela to a resounding 94-57 victory over the 11th-ranked Ourense (11-16) in the Spanish Primera FEB (second division) during Friday night's game. Barrueta, who received the All-SSC Player of the Year award in 2016, was named the MVP of the game after scoring an impressive 13 points in just 17 minutes of play. Monbus Obradoiro CAB Santiago de Compostela, with a record of 25-3, currently sits atop the league standings, having secured their 13th consecutive victory. With only four games remaining in the Regular Season, every upcoming game will be crucial for the team. This season marks Barrueta's first with the team, and he has been making a significant impact with his average of 12.1 points per game and 3.9 rebounds per game in the 28 games he has played so far. Barrueta, a naturalized American, showcased his talent by scoring 13 points and grabbing 1 rebound against Ourense, contributing significantly to his team's triumph and earning the title of champion of the game. His exceptional performance was instrumental in leading his team to victory, highlighting his skills and experience on the court.

   #3. Danish Daniel Mortensen, a 6'9'' forward aged 31, who graduated from Barry in 2019 and earned the All-SSC Second Team award that year, currently plays professionally in Iceland. In a recent game, he led U.M.F. Grindavik to a 91-84 victory over the eighth-ranked Njardvik with an outstanding performance. Mortensen showcased his skills by achieving a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, along with contributing 4 assists and 3 steals in 31 minutes of play. His remarkable display on the court was instrumental in securing the win for his team, propelling them to become the champion. U.M.F. Grindavik, with a record of 18-4, holds the top spot in the league standings. Throughout the season, Mortensen has maintained solid statistics, averaging 14.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game across 24 appearances.

   #4. In the recent game, Norwegian basketball champion Lars Espe, a 6'1'' guard and 27-year-old Buccaneers alumnus from 2020 currently playing professionally in Norway, was unable to lead Fyllingen (23-4) to a victory. Despite his strong performance, the league-leading Fyllingen team suffered an 84-91 defeat at home against the second-ranked Gimle. Espe showcased his skills with a notable double-double, scoring 11 points, dishing out 10 assists, and grabbing 5 rebounds in 31 minutes of play. His impressive showing against Gimle included 11 points, 5 rebounds, and 10 assists. However, despite his contributions, Fyllingen fell short in securing the win. Throughout this season, Espe has maintained solid averages of 6.8 points, 3.7 rebounds, 8.5 assists (leading the league), and 2.1 steals per game in 21 appearances. His consistent performance has been instrumental in Fyllingen's success, even in the face of challenging matchups like the recent game against Gimle.

   #5. Lithuanian player Justinas Marcinkevicius, standing at 6'8'' and aged 28, is a graduate of Barry University in 2022. His impressive skills were showcased when he guided his team to the final of the SSC Tournament that year. Currently playing professionally in Lithuania, Marcinkevicius demonstrated his prowess on the court by aiding Kedainiu Nevezis-Optibet to a crucial victory against the third-ranked Neptunas with a score of 93-88 in the Lithuanian Betsafe Lietuvos krepsinio lyga during a Saturday night game. Despite scoring only 2 points, Marcinkevicius contributed significantly with 5 rebounds and 3 assists during his 29 minutes of play. Kedainiu Nevezis-Optibet, currently positioned seventh in the league with a record of 8-16, benefited greatly from Marcinkevicius' performance against Neptunas. His all-around contribution to the game truly exemplified his qualities as a champion. In the ongoing season, Marcinkevicius maintains an average of 5.6 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game across 22 games, showcasing his consistency and value to his team.

   #6. Puerto Rican Leandro Allende, a 6'6'' forward aged 27 and an alum of the Buccaneers in 2020, currently playing professionally in Puerto Rico, played a crucial role in leading Santeros de Aguada to a notable 83-77 victory over the fourth-ranked Leones in a recent Puerto Rican Baloncesto Superior Nacional match. Despite scoring only 3 points in 21 minutes of play, Allende's impact was undeniable. In a game against Ponce, he managed to score 3 points, secure 2 rebounds, and provide 2 assists, significantly contributing to his team's success on the court. His performance not only helped his team emerge victorious but also highlighted his prowess and leadership qualities as a finalist player. Throughout this season, Allende has been averaging 1.5 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game across six matches, further solidifying his presence as a champion player in the league.

   #7. Irish Evan Walshe, a 28-year-old guard standing at 6'4'' who graduated from Barry in 2020 and currently plays professionally in the United Kingdom, made a significant impact in the British Super League Basketball game on Sunday night. He played a crucial role in the Bristol Flyers' narrow 83-80 victory over the closely-ranked Manchester team. Walshe's performance was instrumental in securing the win, as he contributed 7 points in just 15 minutes of play. With this impressive display, Walshe not only helped his team triumph against Manchester but also solidified his position as a key player in the team's success on the road to becoming the champion. Throughout this season, Walshe has maintained an average of 3.4 points per game, along with 1.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists in the 14 games he has played so far. His consistent contributions have undoubtedly played a significant role in the team's journey to the final.

   #8. James Montgomery, a 24-year-old forward standing at 6'8'' and an alumnus of the Buccaneers from 2024, currently plays professionally in Colombia. In a recent game, he showcased his skills and talent by contributing significantly to his team's easy victory over the league outsider Storm, with a crushing score of 73-47. The game saw Montgomery securing a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in just 22 minutes of play. His remarkable performance against the Carrib.Storm not only helped lead his team to victory but also earned him the prestigious Triple-Double Badge from eurobasket.com, further solidifying his reputation as a champion player. Throughout the season, Montgomery has maintained impressive statistics, averaging 11.5 points per game, 13.0 rebounds per game (leading the league in this category), and 1.5 steals per game in four games played. His consistent performance on the court demonstrates his prowess and potential as a finalist in the making.
