Liberty Claims WVIAC TitleA bevvy of shots in the early going of the second half extended West Liberty's lead, ensuring the team would remain undefeated as it enters NCAA Tournament play with a 94-78 victory over WV State Saturday evening in the WVIAC Tournament final. MVP John Wolosinczuk accounted for a team-high 20 points and 25 rebounds in the win. Barry Shetzer also notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards while Corey Pelle registered 16 points and 11 assists. Tim Hausfeld poured in 18 points while Alex Falk added 15. For WVSU, Josh Miller netted 22 points to lead the team. Bo King added 18 while Will Collins totaled 15. Corey Bethea also chipped in 12 and seven rebounds. WL was able to break open a close game midway through the first half en route to the 42-30 halftime lead. In the first half, WL buried 16-of-40 shots, six of which were from behind the arc. The team also forced 12 turnovers. Hausfeld led the team in the first period with 13 points while Corey Pelle and Wolosinczuk each accounted for seven. Wolosinczuk had also pulled down nine rebounds by the intermission. Josh Miller and Bo King each had eight at the break for WVSU. Trailing 13-9, Hausfeld buried a runner to pull the Hilltoppers within two. He then hit another jumper to even the score. Tied at 19, Shetzer hit a deep three to put WL up 22-19. Hausfeld then connected on back-to-back shots from downtown to give the Hilltoppers a 28-19 advantage with 7:29 to play. Bethea's three-point shot for WVSU pulled the Yellow Jackets within four, 28-24, with 5:48 to play. However, it marked the closest the team would get in the half. In the second half, WL went on a 20-9 spurt to open play and never looked back. With 11:16 to go, Falk's shot extended the margin to 31 at 72-41. The Yellow Jackets closed the gap to 16 with 1:16 to play on a basket by Bo King, but it was the closest the team would get down the stretch.
