Maurice Mickens (5'10''-G) scored 17 points and Rasul Buulu (6'7''-F) added 14 more to lead the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College to a 64-61 win over the Dragons of Lane College to claim the Championship of the 76th Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament. LeMoyne Owen improves to 17-13 overall and with its win claims the SIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Basketball Tournament.
In the first half, it looked as though Lane would walk away with the title after building up a 12 point lead (36-28) at the half. In the second 20 minutes of play though, the Magicians caught up for most of the period the lead swapped hands numerous times. In the end though, Buluu hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to salt away the win for the Magicians. Lane had four players to score in double figures led by Nick Beauregard who scored 13 points.
