Queens Tops Carson-Newman 69-59 to Claim SAC Men's Basketball Tournament Title - Mar 9, 2022
The Queens Royals defeated the Carson-Newman Eagles 69-59 to claim the 2022 South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Championship on Sunday (March 6). With the win the Royals earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament.
The Royals came out with a lot of energy and aggressiveness as they forced 12 first half turnovers to take a 34-21 lead into the break.
The Eagles cut into the lead in the second half, but the Royals continued to apply heavy pressure and held on for the win.
Leading the way for Queens was Jamari Smith (6'8''-F) with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds, while Kenny Dye (5'11''-PG) added 16 points and six rebounds. Also scoring in double figures was Quan McCluney (6'5''-G/F) with 10 points.
Bryant Thomas (6'9''-C) was the leader for the Eagles with a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds. Tripp Davis (6'3''-G-1997) and Ren Dyer (6'4''-G) poured in 10 points each for Carson-Newman as well.
