IUP Three-Peats as PSAC Men's Basketball Champions with win over Millersville, 63-52 - Mar 8, 2022
The Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks defeated the Millersville Marauders in the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championship Tournament Final, 63-52, en route to earning its third consecutive PSAC Men's Basketball Championship.
IUP is the first team to win three-straight conference titles in men's basketball since Cheyney won five-in-a-row from 1976 to 1980.
For the Crimson Hawks, they took advantage early in the first half never looking back. It was a defensive showcase holding Millersville to shooting just 25% (6-of-24) from the field in the first period.
Overall, it was a low-scoring affair halfway through, with IUP leading, 35-18. Ethan Porterfield (6'8''-F) led all scorers prior to the second half tallying 11 points.
Porterfield ended the game with 16 points and eight rebounds. For his play throughout the PSAC Tournament, he was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the PSAC Championship Tournament.
In the second half, the Crimson Hawks never looked back and eventually increased their lead to 28 points. They were sparked by Dave Morris (6'1''-G-1998) who hit a handful of three's finishing the game with 19 points.
Millersville did fight back to cut into the deficit as they lost, 63-52, but it was not enough.
Marauders' Jaden Faulkner (6'4''-G) was the lone bright spot in Ville's offensive struggles. He finished with 20 points and four assists.
IUP shot 37% (24-of-65) from the floor and 35% from downtown (9-of-26).
