USC Aiken Claims Second Straight PBC Tournament Title - Mar 10, 2014
Tournament Most Valuable Player Devontae Wright (6'0''-PG-92) hit a fade-away jumper with 29 seconds left and the USC Aiken Pacers weathered two last-second three-point attempts from Montevallo to win 61-59 in the 2014 PBC Tournament championship game, presented by Jani-King. USC Aiken becomes the first team to repeat as tournament champions since Georgia Regents in 2001 and 2002 and win their third tournament title in the last five years - all against Montevallo. The game was tied at 57 with 4:19 to play when UM's Shykeem Jackson drained a baseline jumper. The Pacers 29-3 then missed their next four shots in a row until Alvin Brown (6'10''-F) put home a layup with 2:03 to go. The Falcons () then missed two straight shots before losing the ball out of bounds, giving possession to the Pacers with 57 seconds left. Wright held the ball, running time off the clock, before sinking the game-winning jumper. Montevallo had three chances to tie or win the game in the final seconds, but two three-point attempts from Troran Brown (6'2''-G) and a tip attempt from Silas Mills (6'8''-F) did not find the bottom of the net. Points were hard to come by for both teams in the early going. Montevallo scored their first points at the 15:54 mark of the first half on a Jackson three-pointer, which made the score 6-3. An Alvin Brown (6'10''-F) dunk with 6:42 to go in the first gave the Pacers a 22-17 lead, which grew to six following a free throw from Paul Larsen (6'6''-F-92). Two Ronald Zimmerman (6'0''-PG-91) free throws boosted the lead to seven, the largest of the game, before UM's Troran Brown (6'2''-G) made three straight baskets to cut the lead to one. The two teams were tied at the half. Wright finished the game with 18 points, four rebounds and two assists. Jesse Seilern (6'3''-G-90) hit four first-half three-pointers to finish with 12 while Brown added 11 points and seven rebounds with Larsen scoring 10 with eight rebounds. USCA shot 51.7% in the second half for a 43.6% for the game. The Pacers also outrebounonded the Falcons 39-33. Brown and Orlando Brazierz (6'7''-C) led the Falcons with 11 points each. Jackson finished with 10 while Mills came off the bench with six points and 11 rebounds.
