No. 4 Seed Limestone Going Dancing With 69-54 Win Over King; First Program to Sweep in 12 Years - Mar 6, 2014

Balanced scoring and shooting north of 50-percent helped lead No. 4 Seed Limestone (21-8, 10-6 CC) to the second Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship in team history as they outpaced No. 3 Seed King (16-13, 11-5 CC) 69-54 in an NCAA Division II men's basketball game on Thursday, March 6.
Teaming with the women's team, Limestone becomes the first program to sweep the Conference Carolinas Championships in 12 years. The last program to do so was Belmont Abbey in 2002. While the Saints have reached the championship game in three of the last four years, their only other win came in the 2010-11 season with a victory over Coker.
Senior guard Pj Foster (6'0''-PG-91) (Leesburg, Fla.) earned Most Valuable Player honors for the tournament following a 16 point effort that featured four threes and three assists while junior forward Asaad Woods (6'4''-G) (Chandler, Ariz.) and junior guard Josh Odem (6'5''-G-91, college: Chattanooga) (Johnson City, Tenn.) earned All-Tournament honors. Woods finished with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists while Odem had 11 points on the night.
Freshman forward Shaquille Dance (6'4''-F) (Garner, N.C.), appropriately named for what he has helped the Saints accomplish, added 12 points, seven boards and four assists and junior forward Avery Bomar (6'5''-F) (Spartanburg, S.C.) registered a career-high 10 rebounds to round out the top performers.
Five early threes by the Tornado staked them to a 15-6 lead by the 15:13 mark but when the long ball dried up, Limestone responded with an incredible 15-2 run over a span of 7:05. That stretch featured three triples and gave the Saints a 21-17 advantage with 8:08 to play in the half.
King would battle back to retake the lead at 25-23 with 5:52 on the clock but, once again, Limestone had an answer as they used a 9-2 run to lead 32-27. From there they would close out the final 3:52 allowing just two points to take a 34-29 margin into the break.
With the score at 41-35 with just two minutes gone by in the second half, the Saints offense ignited behind eight points from Foster, six on threes, and a dunk from Woods to power out to a 51-39 lead behind a 10-4 stretch. The Tornado would get it to within nine at 55-46 with 8:41 to play but that would be as close as they would get.
Over the next 4:37 Limestone took complete control of the game as they erupted for a 12-2 run as Odem notched five points and Dance had a traditional three-point play to push it to a 67-48 advantage with just 4:05 remaining. Even with their volatile three-point game, King's offense would not be able to tangle with that deficit as the Saints delivered the second Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship in program history with a 69-54 victory.
Logan Lyle (6'5''-F), fresh off a tremendous outing in their semifinal upset of Barton, finished with 16 points as the only double-digit scorer for the Tornado and Malcolm St. Louis added eight points and six rebounds. Shamarae Watts (6'5''-F) chipped in with nine points.
