Cal State San Bernardino Wins Second Straight CCAA Tournament Title
Senior forward Bryan Leduc (6'8''-F) registered a double-double to lead Cal State San Bernardino to a 58-52 victory over Cal Poly Pomona in the championship game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men's Basketball Tournament Friday in Arcata.
LeDuc, who was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, finished with a game-high tying 17 points and added 12 rebounds to help the Coyotes (22-7) to their second straight CCAA Tournament title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Freshman guard Mitchel Anderson (6'4''-G) contributed 17 points to lead Cal Poly Pomona (22-6), while Dwayne Fells (6'5''-F) also finished in double figures with 10 points for the Broncos.
The 110 points scored in the game set a CCAA Tournament record for fewest combined points in a championship game. The previous mark was 120 in the 2008 title game between UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona. The Tritons won that contest, 64-56.
Cal State San Bernardino rallied from a six-point deficit with 3:26 remaining, outscoring Cal Poly Pomona, 12-0 the rest of the way to post the victory.
Devon Davis (6'7''-F/C) scored on lay-up with 1:37 remaining to give the Coyotes a 53-52 lead, LeDuc hit a 3-pointer with 38 seconds remaining and Aaron Hill (6'1''-G) gave Cal State San Bernardino a six-point advantage with a pair of free throws with 22 seconds left to play.
