Tabor College wins 2015/2016 KCAC Championship! - Mar 1, 2016

The Tabor men's basketball team defeated Southwestern 75-68 on Monday night inside Hartman Arena to win the KCAC Men's Basketball Championship. Tabor's Lance Carter (6'4''-F) led all scorers with 20 points and completed a double-double with 12 rebounds. D'Marco Smith (6'0''-G) added 14 points for the Bluejays. Cameron Clark (6'3''-F-93) and Chris Waller (6'1''-G) each scored 18 points for Southwestern. Clark completed a double-double, pulling down 11 rebounds.
A Southwestern three from Cameron Hunt opened the scoring in the game as the Builders opened the first half on a 7-0 run. At the 16:35 mark, Tabor's D'Marco Smith hit a three to get his team on the scoreboard. One minute later, Davaghndre Jones (6'4''-F) completed three-point play for Tabor to cut the Southwestern lead to 10-7.
A baseline jumper for Southwestern's Cameron Clark (6'3''-F-93) at the 12:50 mark, and a steal and layup in transition from Chris Waller (6'1''-G) stretched the Builder lead to 16-11. Tabor wouldn't go away however, as back-to-back buckets from Malik Brooks (5'11''-G) and John Jedneak (6'6''-F) cut the Southwestern lead back to one, 16-15.
Later, a baseline two-point jumper and three-pointer from Southwestern pushed their lead to 27-18 and forced Tabor to take a timeout. Tabor answered once again, this time with seven consecutive points to cut the Builder lead to 27-25 and force Southwestern to take a timeout of its own. Southwestern's Hunt hit a three out of the timeout to push his team's lead back to five, 30-25.Tabor scored the next four points to inch within one, 30-29, with 3:38 remaining in the half. The teams traded baskets the rest of the way and Smith's layup for Tabor tied the game at 39 going into the locker room. After Southwestern scored the first four points of the second 20 minutes, Tabor went on a 10-0 run over three minutes to take a 51-43 advantage. Four different Bluejays scored during the run. With 13:05 remaining in the game a Jedneak jumper for Tabor put his team's lead at 53-44 and forced Southwestern to take a timeout. Two minutes later, Jedneak hit another jumper that saw the Bluejays go up by 14, 60-46. The Tabor lead hovered around 10 before Southwestern cut lead to 69-62, forcing Tabor to take timeout. The Bluejays were able to convert their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
