In front of a full house at Lynn Farrell Arena in Hastings, Nebraska, the second seed Hastings Broncos won their first ever GPAC Men's Basketball Postseason Tournament Championship on Tuesday night. The Broncos defeated fourth seed Morningside 77-61.
Behind 32 points by Reggie Thomas (6'1''-G), the Broncos earned the second automatic qualifier from the GPAC to the NAIA National Tournament. Hastings led at the half 41-28. Tyrique McMurrin (6'5''-F) added 15 for Hastings, while Quinn Johnson (6'3''-G) had ten off the bench. Ely Doble (6'6''-C) had 22 for Morningside, while Aidan Vanderloo (6'1''-G) was also in double figures with 12.
Hastings was the tri-champion of the GPAC regular season with Northwestern and Concordia. It was the first ever GPAC Tournament Championship played at Hastings as they won their first postseason title. Northwestern earned the first automatic qualifier for the GPAC by way of being the number one seed in the tournament.
64 teams will make the NAIA Men's Basketball Postseason this year. Games will be played at First and Second Round Sites on March 15-16 (four team pods). The 16 opening round site winners will play in the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship is set for March 21-26, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri, at Municipal Auditorium.
