Governors State Claims CCAC Tournament Title - Mar 2, 2018
In a battle of Top 25 teams, Jalen Miller (6'5''-SF) scored 22 points and Robbie Brooks (6'3''-SG) added 19 points to lead Governors State to a 78-68 victory over Roosevelt in the CCAC Tournament Championship Game played before a capacity crowd at the Athletics & Recreation Center. With the win, 16th-ranked GSU (25-8) secured the "CCAC Double," adding the tournament title to the regular season crown it clinched on February 7. Roosevelt (27-7), ranked 20th nationally, was led offensively by Adam Alexander (6'4''-G/F) and Jake Ludwig (6'1''-G), who scored 10 points apiece. Ludwig drained a pair of free throws with 2:57 left in the game to bring the Lakers to within five points (67-62). It was the closest RU got in the second half after GSU built a 39-29 halftime lead. "Give Roosevelt a lot of credit, all three games against them this year were hard-fought and close," said GSU Head Coach Tony Bates . "It's a phenomenal feeling to be part of something special like tonight. Our players and coaches have worked tremendously hard to make this happen." Up next for Governors State and Roosevelt is the NAIA National Tournament, which begins March 7 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The tournament bracket will be revealed Wednesday at 5 p.m. at www.facebook.com/PlayNAIA.
