Oklahoma Baptist celebrate Division I title

Oklahoma Baptist ensured their second NAIA Division I title as they edged Azusa Pacific in a highly contestant battle 84:83. The first title dates back to 1966. The Bison were paced by 21 points from Aj Hawkins (6'7''-F). Sixteen of those points came in the second half when the Bison came back from a halftime deficit to eke out a tough win. Azusa Pacific dominated in the first half. They earned an 8-point lead midway through the half. The Bison managed to trim the deficit at 7-point mark at the main break. Oklahoma Baptist entered the second half on a 9:0 run to surge in front. The teams turned the game into a roller coaster with 11 lead changes. Aj Hawkins finally drained a decisive triple with 40 seconds remaining bringing Oklahoma Baptist to the victory. Kevin Swinton (6'8''-F) scored 19 points and grabbed 8 boards for the Bison. Nate Brumfield (6'5''-F-86) added 15 points and 7 caroms in the win. Brumfield was named the tournaments MVP. Dominique Johnson (6'3''-G-87) responded with 24 points for Azusa Pacific. NAIA2: Saint Francis take first national championship
title -
Mar 17, 2010 Saint Francis defeated Walsh 67:66 to earn the first ever national championship title. Qadr Owens accounted for a late jumper to pilot the Cougars to a 67:66 victory at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks. Saint Francis entered the game strongly building a 22:16 lead. Walsh responded with 10 points in a row and surged ahead. The Cavs stretched the margin to 8 points before Saint Francis cut the deficit at 6-point mark at the big break. Saint Francis opened the second half with a pair of triples to level the situation. The teams went neck-and-neck from now on. The Cougars led 65:63 late in regulation. Brandon Sparks fired from downtown giving Walsh a 66:65 advantage with just over two minutes to go. Several missed shots were followed by a layup from Qadr Owens. Walsh misfired four shots in the dying seconds to lose the battle. DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis (6'5''-F) scored 22 points and was named the championships most outstanding player. Matt Edmonds (6'5''-F) added 14 points, while Qadr Owens had 11 points in the victory. Ricky Jackson (6'7''-F-87) responded with 16 points and 13 rebounds for Walsh. Jeremy Snardo delivered 13 points in defeat.
