Second-seeded Indiana Tech wins 2021 Tournament - Mar 1, 2021
Indiana Tech won the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Men's Basketball Tournament title with an 85-68 win over top-seeded Rochester. The Warriors, seeded second in this year's tournament, have won four tournament titles: three as the No. 2 seed (2005, 2008) and one as the No. 3 seed in 2015. The last No. 1 seed to win the tournament was Cornerstone in 2017.
Indiana Tech improves to 21-8 overall and takes the league's second automatic berth to the NAIA Men's Basketball National Championship Opening Round. Rochester sits at 13-3 after claiming the first auto bid as conference champion.
Rochester held a two-point lead for the first two minutes of the game when Rog Stein (6'6''-F) hit a jumper at 17:13 to break a tie for Tech's first lead. Indiana Tech held the lead the entire half, shooting a blistering 59.4% from the fielld, but Virgil Walker (6'7''-F), Jr. scored 10 of his 14 first-half points in the last nine minutes to keep Rochester close.
Max Perez (5'11''-PG) started a 13-2 Tech run to open the second half and push IT's lead to 17 (58-41). Tech extended the lead to as many as 21 midway through the half when Jeremy Luciani (6'8''-F) hit a layup. Rochester chipped away at the lead to pull to within 11 with just under three minutes to play, but IT scored the last six points on two free throws and a layup from Josh Kline (6'9''-F) and a layup by Cory McKinney (6'1''-G).
