Crusaders outlast Lions; Claim SSAC Men's Basketball Title - Mar 9, 2014

William Carey University completed a perfect run through the Southern States Athletic Conference as they defeated No. 6 Emmanuel College, 85-73 in the championship game of the 2014 SSAC Tournament.

Neither team led by more than five points in the first half and with the Crusaders down 26-25, Kelvin Nixon (6'2''-SG) (SR, Heidelberg, Miss.) reeled off four straight points as WCU outscored Emmanuel 6-2 over the final 90 seconds of the half to send WCU into the half up 31-28.
Carey wasted little time taking control of the game as they stormed out of the gates with a 19-4 run to open a 50-32 lead with fourteen minutes left to play. Emmanuel answered back with a 15-3 run to cut the lead to 53-47 then Daron Bell (6'3''-G/F) (SR, Waveland, Miss.) ended the Lion rally almost singled handily.
