LSU Alexandria continues perfect run with RRAC Tournament Title - Mar 5, 2017
Top-ranked and unbeaten LSU Alexandria was pushed to the limit, but was able to hold on for a 90-87 victory in the championship game of the 2017 GEICO RRAC Men's Basketball Tournament at Rapides Parish Coliseum. The Generals, 31-0 on the season, captured their second tournament title in the last three years. 2017 GEICO RRAC Men's Basketball Tournament Schedule/Results Langston was riding a 10-game winning streak of its own including two tournament victories, and that continued throughout the first half when the Lions built a 46-42 halftime lead. Langston connected on 10 three-pointers in the first half, shooting over the taller LSUA lineup. The Lions' run continued into the second half, and they built their biggest lead at 54-46 at the 16:31 mark when Daryle Morgan (6'6''-F) scored a basket. From there, the Generals went on a 19-4 stretch that flipped the score in their favor at 66-59. LSUA's Hayward Register drilled back-to-back three-pointers at a key point in the run. The LSUA lead ballooned to 14, but Langston wouldn't go away, finally closing to within three in the final moments as Mike Harris (6'2''-G) sank a three-pointer.Jordin Williams (6'3''-G) led the Generals with 19 points, and Register connected for 17. Gilbert Talbot (6'10''-C) and Brandon Moss (6'9''-F) were selected as tournament co-MVPs. Talbot scored 18 with nine rebounds and Moss delivered 14 points and 10 boards. Langston (22-9) was led by Mike Harris (6'2''-G) with 21 points and Curtis Jones (6'2''-G) with 17. The Lions received an automatic berth in the NAIA national tournament as the RRAC event runner-up. LSUA clinched a spot as the regular season conference champions.
