Freed-Hardeman Wins 2023-24 MSC Tournament With 71-59 Victory Over Georgetown-Mar 6, 2024
Top-seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) captured the 2023-24 Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Tournament Title with a 71-59 victory over No. 3 seed Georgetown Monday at Studle Financial Arena.
With the victory, the Lions (26-4) capture their second tournament title.
Following the conclusion of the game, Freed-Hardeman's JaQuan Lax (6'1''-PG) was named the H&W Dukes Sports Player of the Game. Lax scored 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting while connecting on all three of his three pointers.
State Farm Insurance of Bowling Green, D C Clement, agent, is sponsoring the 2024 Mid-South Conference Outstanding Player of the Tournament Award. Lax earned the award averaging 21 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Peyton Law (6'6''-F) and Chase Fiddler (6'5''-G) were also in double figures for the Lions scoring 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Freed-Hardeman took a 12-8 lead with 12:53 left in the first half following a 6-0 run. Georgetown answered going on a 6-0 run that last 3:44 to jump in front 14-12. The Lions responded scoring the next 10 points in 90 season taking a 22-14 lead with 7:39 to play in the half. Georgetown cut it to five at 22-17 before the Lions went on a 7-1 run to lead by double digits at 29-18. Freed-Hardeman led 31-21 at halftime.
The Lions outscored Georgetown 40-38 in the second half to secure the 71-59 victory. Freed-Hardeman shot 52.4 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from three. Georgetown shot 53 percent from the field in the second half and was just 1-of-5 from three.
