UAV rolls past UCM in Cal Pac title game - Mar 3, 2020
Antelope Valley started the California Pacific Conference Championship game hot and stayed hot throughout, taming UC Merced 84-66 in the conference title game in Lancaster, Calif. With the victory, UAV, ranked No. 12 in the NAIA, advances to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship on March 11-17 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Pioneers, now 27-4, extend their win streak to 18 games and claim their third consecutive Cal Pac title and, in the process, tied the conference record for wins in a season, matching the 2013-14 Cal Maritime squad. UAV has not lost a game in 2020, and the closest game it had in that run came two weeks ago when UCM put a scare into the UAV home crowd in a narrow 74-70 win over the Bobcats. But that was not the case Monday night. UAV scored early and often and raced to a 46-23 lead by halftime. As a team, the Pioneers finished the game shooting 49m percent from the floor, and a sizzling 44 percent from beyond the arc, draining 12-of-27. UAV had three players hit double figures on the night. Ronnie Rousseau III (5'10''-PG-95), the Cal Pac Player of the Year and the conference's leading scorer, added to his impressive numbers by dropping 25 points, hitting 7-of-12 from the floor and 9-of-10 from the charity stripe. Allex Austin (6'8''-F) converted six of his nine shots to total 13 points, and Kane Keil added 12 points. Kamal Holden chipped in eight points and a game-high nine rebounds. Jonah Cottrell (6'3''-G) had a big scoring night for the Bobcats, finishing with 24 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor, including four of his six 3-pointers. He also made 8-of-10 free throws. Andrew Williams was the only other UCM player in double digits, adding 10 points.
