The Pioneer men's basketball team captured their first ever Cal Pac Conference regular season title. The last Cal Pac Conference title for the Pioneers was in 1998-99. Cal State East Bay is 19-7 overall, finished 14-2 in the Cal Pac, and posted a perfect 10-0 record at home. Junior guard Moore Tauran (6'3''-G) was named Cal Pac Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Moore, from Newark, NJ, led the Pioneers to the title by averaging 16.0 points, 3.4 rebounds while shooting over 49 percent from three-point range. He is joined on the first team by sophomore teammate Will Freedman (6'5''-F) (11.1 ppg, 5.0rpg). Earlier, Moore was named Cal Pac Conference Player of the Week (January 26-31) for his performance against Simpson University and Menlo College and (February 1-7) versus Bethany University, William Jessup, and Dominican University. Cal State East Bay is averaging 77 points and 37.3 rebounds a game. Moore Tauran is the Pioneers top scorer averaging 15.1 points per game. Shea Frazee (6'2''-G) is averaging 10.5 points per game and has converted 46 of 98 three-pointers. Will Freedman is averaging 11 points per game while shooting 53.6 percent from the field. Center Finis Jones (6'6''-F/C), averaging 6.5 points per game, has 31 blocked shots. The Pioneers have received good production from Jawaan Rubin who is averaging 6.9 points and 4.8 rebounds a game.
Moore Tauran hit a three-pointer with 0.8 second remaining to give Cal State East Bay a 55-52 victory over William Jessup University in the championship game of the Cal Pac Basketball Post-Season Playoffs on February 28. Moore led the Pioneers in scoring with 12 points. Finis Jones, Jun Uchida (5'6''-G), and Melvin Flemings all scored eight points. Jones led the Pioneers on the boards with six rebounds.
