Aquira Decosta gets MVP of the Week award for WPBA (by Hoops Agents)- June 13, 2023
The 22-year old forward had a double-double of 23 points and twelve rebounds, while her team edged out Valkyrie (#8, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 71-69. It allowed Phoenix to consolidate first place in the WPBA. But it's just the very beginning of the season and Phoenix won both games without losing any. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Decosta had a remarkable 54.5% from 2-point range. She just recently signed at Phoenix and just after two games she already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. Sacramento State University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Decosta is in league's top in points (6th best: 18.5ppg), rebounds (4th best: 10.5rpg) and averages solid 1.5bpg. The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was point guard Brijanee Moore (175-PG) of Royals. Moore impressed basketball fans with a double-double of 15 points and 18 rebounds. Of course Royals cruised to a 68-57 relatively comfortable win over Riptide (1-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. Moore is one of the most experienced players at Royals and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. The third best performed player last round was Aja Johnson (185-F/C) of Reign (#7). Johnson scored 15 points and grabbed twenty four rebounds (!!!). Despite Johnson's great performance Reign lost 61-88 to Blaze (#4, 1-1). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. Reign can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. Johnson has individually a great season in WPBA. After only 2 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 19.5rpg (#1 in league). Other top performing players last week: 4. Ashley Hart (G) of Royals - 25 points and 6 rebounds 5. Jasmine King (168-G) of Riptide - 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists 6. Nicol Berry (175-G) of Swish - 24 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Ny'Dajah Jackson (168-G) of Blaze - 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists 8. Charlee Underwood (178-F-1985) of Blaze - 15 points and 9 rebounds 9. Jazmine Jackson (178-G/F) of Wolves - 17 points and 9 rebounds 10. Jessica Wilson (F/G) of Reign - 24 points and 9 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
